Guest guest
Hi There! This is Sylvia. I am the owner of sipz. My cell phone number is 858-336-6407, please call me if you could. To help clarify about the box of Gelatin. It WAS ON THE SHELF. Let me reassured you and all of our customers that I am positive that all our desserts and Vegan Sushi are VEGAN. We do not use milk, eggs, or any Gelatin in them. My brother who recently graduated from Culinary Institute of Art from the Bay Area learned how to bake cake was experimenting around with what he learned and then convert them into Vegan cake that we can share with our Vegan customers. Huynh is that tall guy that you see in the shop over this past summer. He is the tall bald one. Anyway, the box of gelatin was what his school's recipe was teaching him to use so he made Raspberry muosse cake for his friend's birthday and so he made one regular cake as well as one Vegan one using Agar Agar for us to eat. The result unfortunately was not the same so we did not added it to our menu. It was dumb of him to have kept the box around after trying it but I reassured everybody that we do not use it in any of our vegan cakes. Someone could get it tested if they like. Doing business, sometime, you just can't avoid not pleasing everybody and an honest response like that customer who saw the box is totally understandable and appreciated. I wish I had been there, because I would have been clearer with my answer than the "older lady" because that is my mother. I had asked her after your email, she did say "we do not use that." But her english is limited so she could not explain to him what Gelatin is. Sorry for the scare but not to worry. We will keep our food and desserts Vegan so more people could enjoy it. If something doesn't taste good enough Vegan, we will fairly state that it isn't. If you could help me share this info, it would be most appreciated. Thank you! Horrors! I cringe every time I read someone extolling WAPF when talking about eating locally or avoiding processed foods. "Eating locally" is in vogue now and wapf has positioned itself as one of the "experts," but invariably, people who've bought the wapf story swallow it all, including its viciously antivegan stance. I haven't checked, but I'd bet The Onion could do a nice job on the wapf soy paranoia campaign. Or a comparison of illnesses directly attributable to soy products vs. illnesses directly attributable to wapf obsessions such as raw dairy or lard.
