Guest guest
Hi Mahavir > What you call the Nirvana of Lord Buddha, was just a death > by eating poisonous pork! Contrary to his love for animals, > Goutam Buddha never opposed to eating flesh. We can see his > lust for flesh in his biography, preaching and views. Please > read the full article with refarances at: > http://buddhaatemeat.blogspot.com/ Wow - impressive quoting out of context on that website. Just to take the first example... from the website above: " Buddha says, 'O Bhikku, the flesh is pure to you if you do not see, do not hear or do not suspect that the animal is specially killed for you' (Vinaya Texts XVII P.117) " The same part from an accurate translation of the Vinaya Texts: " 'Let no one, O Bhikkhus, knowingly eat meat (of an animal) killed for that purpose. Whosoever does so, is guilty of a dukkata offence.'I prescribe, O Bhikkhus, that fish is pure to you in three cases: if you do not see, if you have not heard, if you do not suspect (that it has been caught specially to be given to you).' " I love the fact that " fish " has been turned to " flesh " , and what was actually a qualifying remark regarding the *only* instances in which it is acceptable to eat meat, has been quoted in such a way as to suggest that Buddha supported the eating of meat in all circumstances. Having seen that, I don't honestly think this particular website should be taken too seriously! BB Peter
