Guest guest
Hi All I would really appreciate some advice on washing fruit and vegetables. Last week i bought some brocoli which i prepared for a soup/broth i was making. I spent quite a bit of time washing the brocoli ( with water). I thought i had really washed it well but when i made the soup which i was really looking forward to after biting into some of the brocoli i saw a bug. I then examined the whole pan of soup and saw more swimming around. This meant that i had to discard a huge amount of soup that included lots of other vegetables. The whole experience has put me of brocoli. I bought some more yesterday and today as i was washing it i've come across more bugs. At least this time i found them before i made huge amounts of soup. Has anyone got any tips/ideas on the best way of washing fruit/ vegetables particularly brocoli. I find brocoli particularly difficult in this respect because the bugs are tiny and there are some many places for them to hide. I try to use as less chemicals as possible in the home and in general. I know that there are products that you can buy for washing fruit/vegetables,but i have no idea what is in them. I want to wash my fruit and veg as natural as possible ( hence using just water),but this dosen't seem to work. If anyone has any suggestions i would be really grateful. The brocoli is sitting in the fridge at the moment. I've spent over an hour washing it with cold water ,but i'm still discovering bugs. I really need some help. Many many thanks Linda
Guest guest
Hi Linda Don't know if my suggestion is acceptable to some vegans or not - but I always soak my veg in salted water for about five minutes. Guest guest
Veg - I just pick through mine and rinse under a tap. Things like leeks, you got to open up to rinse out the grit. Never had an insect incident like yours before? just be more vigilant, pick them off and set them free. I tend to buy organic where possible fruit wise and if not I peel apples/pairs etc. Peter H linda galvin <ljgukuk Sent: Thursday, 8 November, 2007 6:08:32 PM Advice About Washing Fruit / Vegetables Hi AllI would really appreciate some advice on washingfruit and vegetables.Last week i bought some brocoli which i preparedfor a soup/broth i was making.I spent quite a bit of time washing the brocoli( with water).I thought i had really washed it wellbut when i made the soup which i was reallylooking forward to after biting into some of thebrocoli i saw a bug.I then examined the whole pan of soupand saw more swimming around. This meant that i had to discard a hugeamount of soup that included lots of othervegetables. The whole experience has put me of brocoli.I bought some more yesterday and today as i waswashing it i've come across more bugs.At least this time i found them before i made hugeamounts of soup.Has anyone got any tips/ideas on the best way ofwashing fruit/ vegetables particularly brocoli.I find brocoli particularly difficult in thisrespect because the bugs are tiny and there are somemany places for them to hide.I try to use as less chemicals as possible in thehome and in general.I know that there are products that you can buyfor washing fruit/vegetables, but i have no idea whatis in them.I want to wash my fruit and veg as natural as possible ( hence using just water),but thisdosen't seem to work.If anyone has any suggestions i would be reallygrateful. The brocoli is sitting in the fridge atthe moment.I've spent over an hour washing it with coldwater ,but i'm still discovering bugs.I really need some help. Many many thanksLinda____________ _________ _________ _________ _________ __ http://mail. Guest guest
Organic veg are the ones likely to have animals in them as the non- organic have been sprayed with poisons.
