Guest guest
so, last week finally went to check out the new Whole Foods in oakland. its a couple miles closer to us then the one in berkeley. alas...i don't think we'll be going back it was all in all pretty pathetic while it's bigger then the old one in berkeley...it's vegan and organic selection is SADLY lacking. it looked more like a Safeway wedded with one of the PCC markets in Washington. they had a tiny selection of tofu.... we couldn't even find organic spinach.... plus, the dead flesh counter is ENORMOUS, the whole store smells of it....and there's a glass cabinet full of split cows... disgusting... aged beef... we'll not be going back we'll stick with the whole foods in berkeley, the natural foods market on jackson, rainbow in SF, an occassional Trader Joes (heck, its 2 miles down the road...closest place) (even tho the place makes my teeth itch) and of course farmers markets.... Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance. Confucius
Guest guest
Haven't been there, but have read about it. The local whole foods sometimes reeks with dead stuff, too, and when it does I leave without buying my oatmeal. The other two in the area have better ventilation, or maybe they're bigger so it's easier to stay far away from the dead flesh counter. But also, I think sometimes they waft the burning-flesh reek through the store at lunchtime to " entice " (ick) nonvegan customers. A new farmers' market opened this summer, and I've rarely gone because they seem to have gone out of their way to invite sellers of animal products. They don't even have the dead cow parts on display -- I think people have to preorder or something -- but their presence feels creepy to me. Anyway, we have several other farmers' markets to choose from. My favorite place to get food is my garden -- this week have picked radishes, red onions (mostly for the green part), chinese celery, parsley, kale, broccoli, and carrots.
