Guest guest
It depends. I took a permaculture class several years ago. But permaculture incorporates ages-old techniques, sometimes is used to talk about an attitude (care for the earth, care for people, share the bounty), sometimes refers to a systems approach to food/shelter/energy. A lot of the basic principles of permaculture have been part of my way of thinking for as long as I can remember (waste = food, for instance: the idea that all " waste " is a resource, recycling, composting), long before " permaculture " was defined. So in a way, permaculture is a convenient way to describe a lot of things I've long been interested in, even though I have no interest in the livestock/manure part that seems to define most of (or the most vocal of) the U.S. permies.
