Guest guest
MUNCIE -- The Humane Society of the United States wrote a letter to Delaware County Prosecutor Mark McKinney on Friday asking for " aggressive investigation and prosecution " of Danield J. Collins. The suspect, who has been charged with animal cruelty for stabbing the family's pet cat to death in front of his children, is still being detained in the Delaware County Jail on a probation violation hold. Collins, 39, 2801 S. Elm St., allegedly told his children during a visit to his home that he wanted them to " learn how to kill " and gave his 11-year-old son a knife to do it. The boy tried to save his pet by hiding the cat under a sofa bed and putting ketchup on a knife when Collins went to the bathroom. But when the father realized the cat was not dead, he forced his daughter to hold the knife and then held her hand tightly as he drove the knife into the animal, police said. Police said Collins stabbed and strangled the cat himself, and told his son to throw the dead pet in the trash. The two children live with their grandparents. HSUS, which is based Washington D.C., issued a press release referring to the Muncie case and called attention to the connection between animal cruelty and human violence. -- full story: http://www.thestarpress.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080316/NEWS01/803160377\ /1002/NEWS01 What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know, it's what we know for sure that just ain't so. - Mark Twain
