Thanks to a tip from a blogging stripper, WWire has learned that Portland’s Casa Diablo, the world’s first vegan strip club, is for sale after just a month and a half in business. Here's the Craigslist post and here's the MLS listing.

Johnny Diablo tells WWire that it was his plan since he opened the business to get it running and then sell it. Funny, he didn’t mention that when we interviewed him for the club’s grand opening.

That’s two strikes for Diablo, who also made a failed run at a vegan restaurant, Pirate’s Tavern, in the same location.

I'd have thought a stip club is like any other strip club, and customers couldn't give a fig what the strippers eat!

I used to go to the Pirate Tavern, and I'm sorry it went under. In all

honesty, though, I thought it wasn't very likely to succeed. The

original menu was terrific, and the pirate theme was a lot of fun. The

problem was the location. It's on an old highway leading out of Portland

that's out of the way and a little hard to get to. It's an industrial

area overlooking a lot of petroleum storage tanks. The restaurant itself

was large and drafty. It just wasn't that nice a place to go.

A smaller venue in a city neighborhood might have had a better chance.

For instance, Portland has a vegan mini-mall on 12th Ave in SE Portland.

There's a small space still open in that mall. Why not a small vegan

tavern there? Offer a vegan brews and wines, a simple pub-style menu,

and we could all arrgh heartily. I bet that would have a much better

chance of making a go of it.

Cheers,

Trish

vietnamese nail salon perhaps? at the vegan version, you could

get little pictures of animals lacquered on, instead of the usual

american flags and dollar signs (yep, seen those....always

intriguing...)

Hmm... now that I think about it, my version of a vegan mini mall

would start with a big garden. Maybe that's all it would be --

towering brassicas, winding squash vines, brambles and fruit trees. A

solar-powered kitchen in the center. A babbling brook.
