Guest guest
Mar 31, 2008 04:30 AM Jennifer Bain Food Editor This recipe is named for a question vegans constantly field. Not only is there protein in many plant-based foods, there's plenty in this breakfast drink. This smoothie recipe comes from Eat, Drink & Be Vegan: Everyday Vegan Recipes Worth Celebrating (2007, $25.95) by Canada's Dreena Burton. "But Where Do You Get Your Protein?" Smoothie I used almond butter and hemp seed nut butter (both sold in health food stores). I found 15-gram packets of NutriBiotic rice protein powders for $1.49 at the Big Carrot's wholistic dispensary. If you like it, you can buy it in large tubs. 2 cups plain or vanilla soy milk 1 large frozen banana, sliced (about 1 cup) 1/2 cup frozen blueberries 2 tbsp mixed nut butter (such as almond, cashew, peanut or hemp seed) 15-g packet plain brown rice protein powder (2 to 2-1/2 tablespoons) In blender, combine all ingredients. Purée until smooth. Makes 2 servings. Peter H Sent from Mail. A Smarter Inbox.
