Guest guest
Thanks Jo and Peter for your feedback. I will check into The Vegan Society. I also just found a site called VeganWorld.com where I've chatted with other women raising their children vegan. I'm afraid living in a " meat eating " society that it will be a rough road for children going to school/having playdates, etc. Vegetarian seems mor adaptable, but for now, she is vegan. Guest guest
Hi – I rarely write. I just wanted to tell you to keep it up with your kids, whether you go Vegan or Vegetarian. My father, who raised me, used to tell the waitresses in diners where we ate the following: “I’ll have a steak, potatoes, and pie, and give her the same.” I was 3 years old at the time. By the time I was five years old, I weighed 100 pounds. I wish I had had the family situation at that time that would have started me off eating well. Now, I have a fantastic weight problem and lousy eating habits that I battle everyday. Be careful, though. A dear student I had in high school went Vegan without a break-in period and lost 50 pounds. Parental guidance is key. Cynthia On Behalf Of Debbie Wednesday, April 30, 2008 5:34 PM Raising Vegan/Vegetarian children Thanks Jo and Peter for your feedback. I will check into The Vegan Society. Parental guidance is key. I wouldn't say a "break-in period" is necessary, just a sensible approach. If you just cut out all meat and don't replace the nutrients, then you're going to lose a lot of weight! BB Peter

Guest guest
Hi Debbie Good luck with it. It will be tough for them, but they will most likely manage without too many slip-ups. Hopefully veganism will become more accepted and then it will be as easy as vegetarianism is now. Guest guest
He must have been just cutting out the meat and not replacing it with anything else, surely! I know so many vegans who cannot lose weight easily. I am not quite vegan, but the food is so lovely it is difficult to eat less. Guest guest
Thanks, dear fraggle. I sometimes despair, feeling like I must be one of the dumbest Vegans in the world, having to fight the weight problem all of the time. Losing the constant steak/beef/burger/red meat/lunch meet (ugh) helped me a lot. Now, I look at a steak and get nauseous. It’s nice to have someone who, while not having a problem with weight, knows what it was like to be exposed to this stuff as a child.
