the arabs sell oil at $16 a barrell to europe. they sell it to chile

for $10 per barrell. they sell it to us for $130 per barrell. same

oil, same barrell. why? because the U.S. will pay it, no matter how

high the cost goes. why? because we are a nation dependent on oil. if

we want the gas prices to come down, the only way is to be less

dependent on oil. we need to generate all our energy from solar,

wind, and water power. how would you like it if you never had to put

gas in your car or pay any utilities every month? wouldn't that be

nice? the problem is most people want fast cars and big fancy houses

and are not willing to go green or live green or live with less

stuff. so, until people change, nothing else will change.

Hi Marcie

> the arabs sell oil at $16 a barrell to europe. they sell it to chile

> for $10 per barrell. they sell it to us for $130 per barrell.

So, where do those figures come from?

Reason I ask is that, although Americans like to think their petrol prices

are the highest in the world, petrol in the UK still costs more than twice

as much.... (currently at around $8 per gallon).

The original article says that the average car costs $30 to fill up. I have

a very small car (smaller than anything you'd get in the US - a Nissan

Micra), and this costs me the equivalent of $70 to fill up. An " average " US

car would cost well over $100 to fill up at a UK petrol station.

So, bearing that in mind, I find it quite hard to believe that the UK buys

its petrol at a tenth of what the US buys it for!

hmmm

while i agree on the "use less" definately, may i ask about where you got your facts mentioned in the first part?

the price of oil is dictated a lot by traders, the price goes up up the mercantile boards around the world, of course this is majorly affected by supply and demand, but also by fears, speculation, etc and so forth

the worlds oil producers affect prices by how much they pump, and how much they charge for a base price, but that $127/bbl price out there now is not what they set, thats the mercantile boards and ppl buying up supplies

that's also a worldwide price, what you pay on the open market...

countries can set up agreements with certain producers, say, "we agree to pay $50/bbl for 5 yrs, even if the price goes below that world wide"

funny thing is, Hugo Chavez offered this to the US several years ago, forgot the exact price, but he said "prices are going to go up, we'll lock you in at this price, no matter how high it goes" and of course we laughed at him....funny how no one remembers that...

Tis a tad funny how we over here in the colonies have this vision of "the arabs" and the middle east...oooo., them arabs are driving up our price of gas...actually..we get only a portion of our oil from the midfdle east here. Europe of course is different, as is apan and other areas, but....the top places we import from are: Canada, and Mexico....

then Saudi Arabia

then Venezuala, Nigeria, and i forget where after that...but, out of our top ten importers only two countries send us any large amounts of oil, the saudis and iraq...heck, we get a lot of imports from the UK..maybe we should bomb them..(lucky for our english pals that their north sea deposits are tanking, so, we'll hold off on the attack..for now..)

but, yeah, we could change all this around with investments in alterno's

alas, it may all be too little too late

(sorry, i'ma big doomer on this note..i foresee wholesale worldwide collapse)

anywho..i blame charlie chaplan...why? well, gotta blame someone....

Hi Fraggle

I find it vaguely ironic that in the UK, we have huge oil fields and oil rigs in the North Sea - but we still import most of our oil and gas from places like Russia!!!!!

the arabs sell oil at $16 a barrell to europe. they sell it to chile for $10 per barrell. they sell it to us for $130 per barrell. same oil, same barrell. why? because the U.S. will pay it, no matter how high the cost goes. why? because we are a nation dependent on oil. if we want the gas prices to come down, the only way is to be less dependent on oil. we need to generate all our energy from solar, wind, and water power. how would you like it if you never had to put gas in your car or pay any utilities every month? wouldn't that be nice? the problem is most people want fast cars and big fancy houses and are not willing to go green or live green or live with less stuff. so, until people change, nothing else will change. , Blake Wilson <mbw wrote:>> frag's right. these inane "don't buy gas" > scaremails have been around for a couple years:> > http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/nogas.asp> > yawn....> > >too bad it could never work, as the system doesn't work that way> >> >you want lower gas prices, use less....> >> >tis the only way> >> >> >angelicammo> >May 15, 2008 8:10 AM> >ammo , Heather Zacchi , yudystuff , L Wong , > >Kevin Williams , Andrea Wiggins , Caren Welch , > >w1tjl, , Tu , > >Al Tremblay , tomstarr12 , > >taylormiranda12, "susan.moynihan" , > >SurveySpot , PAMELA STEVENS , Elsie Squier , > >smeegdoieva , setter_estates, Tina > >Sessa , Scott , Justin Salvio , rocco , > >Rjbsims, rebeccacooke, > >rbarnes747 , raysjerseygirlinmass , Jenni Raabe > >, questions, Philip Pockoski , > >charlotte plummer , Phia , phatnuts75 , Lindsey > >Peirce , Lindsey Peirce , Paralegal , bette > >papadinis , christine omalley , Susan OKonis , > >Andrea Oberle , TIMOTHY NORMAN , n1st , > >myboyand3girls , Simone Minichino , > >mindywest, Rich and Michele , > >MichaelCrist, > >meteagle, Aimee Menapace , Melissa , > >Angela Melendez , Elena McFarland , > >marykohrer, marybatchelder , Donna Marie > >, Ken Marceau , Sue's Mail , Madman169, > >Jacqui Maddy , luvbeinmom04 , Maryann Los , > >Emily Ljubicic , lisacvd , > >lisa, Landa Leavy , > >KIM LAMESA , Rebekah Ladona , kwolffmorales , > >krettman, kitchykat1 , > >kbrobston, kathrynmroy , kathbeach4 , > >Julianne , juggle82001, jr9kitty , > >Desiree Joy , jonathan927 , Kelly Johnson , > >Denise Johnson , "Christopher R. Hey Fraggle, I agree with you completely, and I have the same attitude you do about the worldwide failure we are approaching. Plus, I'm a bah-humbug kind of person anyway, I'm against organized religion (the Catholic church is the wealthiest corporation in the world - or wait, is that the Mormons, oh anyway..) - I also hate prejudiced people, I am pro-gay marriage, If I called myself a religion I'd say I'm a Buddhist who believes in God - now I know I sound like a crackhead! LOL But anyhow, the $130 per barrell price I mentioned the other day was just the current price the U.S. was buying for at the time; I know it changes, etc. And I got the figure from a friend of mine who is a wallstreet wonder in NY. We were just talking and he blurted out "I can't believe how much we're paying per barrell

right now" and the conversation went on from there...

Your facts are correct. All of them. And yes, it's probably too late but we're gonna try anyway, aren't we?

hmmm

while i agree on the "use less" definately, may i ask about where you got your facts mentioned in the first part?

the price of oil is dictated a lot by traders, the price goes up up the mercantile boards around the world, of course this is majorly affected by supply and demand, but also by fears, speculation, etc and so forth

the worlds oil producers affect prices by how much they pump, and how much they charge for a base price, but that $127/bbl price out there now is not what they set, thats the mercantile boards and ppl buying up supplies

that's also a worldwide price, what you pay on the open market...

countries can set up agreements with certain producers, say, "we agree to pay $50/bbl for 5 yrs, even if the price goes below that world wide"

funny thing is, Hugo Chavez offered this to the US several years ago, forgot the exact price, but he said "prices are going to go up, we'll lock you in at this price, no matter how high it goes" and of course we laughed at him....funny how no one remembers that...

Tis a tad funny how we over here in the colonies have this vision of "the arabs" and the middle east...oooo. , them arabs are driving up our price of gas...actually. .we get only a portion of our oil from the midfdle east here.

What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know, it's what we know for sure that just ain't so.
