Guest guest
The Co-Op helpfully label all their own brand wines as vegetarian or vegan if they are, and a reasonable number of them are vegan. Threshers are supposed to maintain a checklist of which of their stocked wines are veggie or vegan. I haven't tried asking in a number of years (I now tend to make my occasional wine purchases from Vintage Roots) but the last time I did, the assistant did know what I was talking about and managed to find a couple of vegan bottles that they had in stock. As mentioned before, what makes it veggie, vegan or carnivore is usually the fining (clarification) process. The most common fining agents are isinglass (fish bladder) or bonemeal charcoal hence not veggie or vegan. Some use egg albumen, which makes the wine vegetarian but not vegan. Vegan wines, I believe, use non-animal sourced charcoal filters or just natural settling processes. The same fining process details are what makes beer vegan, veggie or neither.
