Guest guest
We recently moved to a very small community in the rocky mountains.....just over 250 people. It's a former mining town. Last weekend we were taking a walk in the woods and discovered...the cemetary. As we entered through the creaking gate, it began to rain. The gravestones were scattered around. The oldest was 1872. I saw a recent gravestone that had a guy's name, and then an AKA of " Woody Long " . I thought this was....mysterious. We got out of there fast! That night we were at a neighbor's house and told her we found the cemetary. " Did you see Woody Long's grave? " she asked.Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck and the lights went out! " Why yes! " said I. " Who's he? " . I was so scared I could barely breathe.... " Oh, he's a former porno star that died in Boulder. He didn't have a family and he was friends with someone in town, so after he died everyone got together and threw a party and raised money for his grave " . " Oh. " I said. Sure enough:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woody_LongHeh.... Guest guest
my cemetery story.. i don't think i told this one here before, if i have sorry..its been awhile since we did this. (i know i told the maine stories) anywho..not particularly scarey, but its what i got at the moment when i forst moved up here in 1989, some new friends took me and a room mate to a cemetery in El Cerrito. since it was after dark, we had to sneak in. basic suburban boredom kid stuff. climbed the wall. for some reason we thought it would be a smashing idea to play hide n seek..in a cemetery..at nite... after everyone had basically damaged themselves in some regard by running pell mell into stone monuments in the dark, we decided to call it a night. we were up on a hill in some trees and were making our way down this rise toward the main entrance, when from out of the bushes came this "ball" of greenish light. we all stopped and saw this bowling ballish sized light zip down the hillside to our left.. now, i don't know what it was..ball lightening..swamp gas..some sort of weird refelction.who knows, but, at least three of us (me included) saw something else within said orb...i saw what looked like a little figure running... now, it was dark, we were all tired, it was late, probably 2-3am... but...it looked like a little guy running down the hill along side us, then in front of us...it sped down the hill and disappeared behind some tombstones and, we did what any normal teens/early twenty year old's would do...we screamed and run as fast as we could down the hill and out of the cemetery..careening off of stone monuments and falling over bushes... hmmm..next year will be twenty years since i moved here...i should go back for the anniversary as an aside, been to a lot of graveyards across the US, and in europe, including a so-called haunted one outside of chicago. that one was supposed to be severely haunted, eerie, etc. when we went, the only eerie thing was the amount of disrespect the cemetery had gotten. broken grave stones, tons of garbage, etc. sadly the place was a mess. well, we took a photo of one large monument, covered in graffitti, which was supposedly the focal point of all this "evil" energy and ghostliness. when we got back home and developed the film, that photo is defective. now, its probably some sort of over exposure, or a sunspot, or something but that picture, and only that picture, has a large "ectoplasmic" white flash or growth all along the base of the monument and stetching up to about thigh height.... cue organ music.... Guest guest
Oooh - now you mention dead people in dreams, I have a story which I guess might be considered spooky... although I really didn't find it spooky at all. When I was about 12, I had a very detailed dream in which an old lady visited me, and took me on a tour of the area she said she used to live. She took me to the modern day area, and was explaining to me how it had all changed since she lived their 120 or so years previously. She told me all sorts of detail, and told me how old she was... As with most dreams, I thought nothing more of it, until a couple of years later I came across a photo of the woman... it turned out she was my great great grandmother, and, had she not died in the 1920s, would have been the age she said (something like 160!) It turned out that she had lived in that area, and although I'd never been there " physically " , when I did visit, I found it was exactly as it had been in the dream... I guess to many that would count as spooky... I just enjoyed the fact that my ancestor had taken the time to visit me and show me round where she'd lived.BBPeter2008/10/15 flower child <zurumato good story blake! when I was a kid, I had a strange ability to see dead people in my dreams. It was very scary and many times I was scared to go to sleep. They were very clear and most always they where trying to tell me something. This was unpredictable and I couldn't control it. Some of my aunts started to make a big deal out of it. When I became " aware " of this and upon their request try to " make it " happen, it wouldn't. This finally stopped when I was about 14 or so. To this day, I'm not sure if they were coincidences or what. One example was when I told my moms'friend; " last night a teenage girl with blond curls dressed in a white gown, told me that she was lost and that she was looking for you " In my dream I was walking down a road and she stopped me. Guest guest
Hi Peter I thought it was spooky. Many years ago I dreamed that we were clearing out my Aunt Rose's flat, because she had died. When we had almost finished she walked in and asked why we had moved her belongings. When I said I thought she was dead she said 'not me, this time'. The next day we found out Colin's dad had died. Coincidence ? Guest guest
At the end of the 80s my dad died, in an April. On Samhain (Halloween) night the same year, there was a whiff of his tobacco in the air, and as we went to bed at midnight, one of our battery clocks alarms started ringing, and would not stop. The stop button just would not work. This clock had not worked for a few years, but one of our children had given it to us when they were young, and we didn't want to throw it away. Had we accidentally pushed the alarm button to set the alarm? No - the alarm was not set. We thought it would be best to take the old batteries out to stop it - but - there were no batteries in there! It rang for several minutes and then stopped. My dad's birthday was 1st November, and the alarm rang at midnight of Samhain, just as his birthday started. What with that and the tobacco, I am sure he was saying 'hello'. I know that is not a scary story, but I don't think I have had any scary ghost happenings. BBJo

(i know i told the maine stories) anywho..not particularly scarey, but its what i got at the moment when i forst moved up here in 1989, some new friends took me and a room mate to a cemetery in El Cerrito. since it was after dark, we had to sneak in. basic suburban boredom kid stuff. climbed the wall. for some reason we thought it would be a smashing idea to play hide n seek..in a cemetery..at nite... after everyone had basically damaged themselves in some regard by running pell mell into stone monuments in the dark, we decided to call it a night. we were up on a hill in some trees and were making our way down this rise toward the main entrance, when from out of the bushes came this " ball " of greenish light. we all stopped and saw this bowling ballish sized light zip down the hillside to our left.. now, i don't know what it was..ball lightening.. swamp gas..some sort of weird refelction.who knows, but, at least three of us (me included) saw something else within said orb...i saw what looked like a little figure running... now, it was dark, we were all tired, it was late, probably 2-3am... but...it looked like a little guy running down the hill along side us, then in front of us...it sped down the hill and disappeared behind some tombstones and, we did what any normal teens/early twenty year old's would do...we screamed and run as fast as we could down the hill and out of the cemetery..careening off of stone monuments and falling over bushes... hmmm..next year will be twenty years since i moved here...i should go back for the anniversary as an aside, been to a lot of graveyards across the US, and in europe, including a so-called haunted one outside of chicago. that one was supposed to be severely haunted, eerie, etc. when we went, the only eerie thing was the amount of disrespect the cemetery had gotten. broken grave stones, tons of garbage, etc. sadly the place was a mess. well, we took a photo of one large monument, covered in graffitti, which was supposedly the focal point of all this " evil " energy and ghostliness. when we got back home and developed the film, that photo is defective. now, its probably some sort of over exposure, or a sunspot, or something but that picture, and only that picture, has a large " ectoplasmic " white flash or growth all along the base of the monument and stetching up to about thigh height.... cue organ music....Fascism, like socialism, is rooted in a market society that refused to function. Guest guest
I'm sorry that your birthday was not celebrated! I hope you celebrate well now, to make up for lost time :-) Incidentally, although we miss our dead relatives, I think of Samhain as a day to remember them happily, not to be sad. Jo - flower child Saturday, October 18, 2008 5:20 PM Re: things that go bump in the nite wow jo and peter, those are really weird and spooky!when I was a kid, my birthday was never celebrated because I was born on the day of the dead. (nov 2nd) I was growing up in my mom's country that is a holiday in which you wear black and mourn the dead. so on my birthday we couldn't even play the radio, instead the whole town goes to the cemetary and put flowers on the graves of their relatives to remember and respect. My aunt would tell me "act sad, not happy" , "jo.heartwork" <jo.heartwork wrote:
