What do you do when the club you DJ at closes down temporarily? You can either get a new job, do nothing or follow a dream you've always wanted to do--open a restaurant. And that's exactly what Chef Doomie (some may know him as DJ Doomie) did when Roberto's closed down and the owners gave the "ok" to use the kitchen to start a comfort food (yes, not Thai) vegan restaurant in the space.

Doomie's Home Cookin' Veggie-Vegan may have opened quietly last Saturday, but the city's main two vegan food bloggers wasted no time. "This was the best veganized mac & cheese I’ve had anywhere," exclaimed Foodeater at To Live and Eat in LA. Vegan blogger Quarrygirl was pleasantly surprised too: "I can tell you it is incredible... this place is giving all the other vegan restaurants a huge run for their money." Both bloggers have some excellent photos of the food they ate.

For us, we'll say Doomie, who is happy to sit down with cusotmers and chat about food, has perfected his vegan Wienerschnitzel-inspired chili that he pours over fries with his homemade vegan cheese sauce (also served on hot dogs and hamburgers). That was just. simply. amazing.
