LANDMARK YEAR FOR MUTTVILLE

This has been a landmark year for Muttville.

We had six amazing fund-raisers, including a sold-out benefit concert

by Gogol Bordello at Slim's. We were discovered by the press

(including a recent feature story in the San Francisco Chronicle and a live

broadcast from Muttville on NBC News this week).

Most importantly, we saved over 200 dogs!

We are tremendously thankful for all the support from our donors,

volunteers, foster homes and adopters - the people who made all this

happen!

As you'll read, the need is greater than ever. Please consider a donation to Muttville as a holiday gift, in your name or

someone else's.

ECONOMIC TROUBLE MEANS MORE ABANDONED ANIMALS

This year's terrible economic news meant a

huge increase in the number of companion animals being turned in to

shelters. Many of these abandoned dogs have been living with families

their whole lives; being thrown into concrete cages with many other

dogs barking all around them is devastating.

MUTTVILLE TO THE RESCUE

Muttville's services have been put to the

test. We have been finding innovative ways to more quickly find homes

for our dogs. We have been working with The Trauma Recovery Center of

San Francisco to place our dogs with patients with post-traumatic

stress disorder; we have also been working with pet-friendly senior

housing complexes to find compatible companions for the residents. The

results have been phenomenal. Our adoptive parents say that their

lives have been transformed.

SUCCESSÖ.AND THEN SOME. BUT WE CAN DO MORE!

All of this has helped us in achieving and

surpassing our 2008 goal of saving 35 dogs; we're currently at number

210! This has been a wonderful and wild ride. Of course, it costs

money to save a dog - among other things, every Muttville dog has a

complete veterinary checkup - and as we save more dogs our expenses

rise.

We want to do more. Our success has not only brought the plight

of senior dogs to light, it has also introduced Muttville to many more

people. It is very painful to say no when you know that Muttville is a

dog's last hope of staying alive. Muttville needs your donations now

more than ever before.

When you look into the happy faces of our dogs who are living in

wonderful, loving homes, and when you look into the happy faces of the

people who are adored by their new companions and whose lives are now

bigger and more joyful - then you'll know that your contributions

have made a difference.

OUR SWEET CHUCKLES

Before I go, I want to share just one story

about a recent Muttville rescue.

When we heard the story of Chuckles, we knew we would spring him

from San Francisco's Animal Control. Poor little guy, he was brought

in to be euthanized. But once the vet examined him, she realized

Chuckles had a rubber band imbedded in his neck! He was suffering

horribly and they surgically removed it. When we met him, he had

stitches all around his neck.

Well, needless to say, he was wary of humans when he first got

here. But once he realized this was a doggy Eden, he came out of his

shell and began to play. He really loved to snuggle, too! We took him

to our vet for the once-over and found out he was a healthy 9-year-old

ready to be adopted.

Then came a phone call from Ella. Wow, it sounded like Chuckles

was just her type! She came over, and it was love at first sight. He

crawled right into her arms and off they went. Coming from a

neglectful and abusive home into the arms of a new loving companion -

this is a real happy ending, for Chuckles and Ella. And that is what

Muttville is all about!

Thank you all for your support this year. We hope you'll continue

to help us grow. Here's to 2009, when even more senior dogs will find

joy and happiness.

Woofs,

Sherri

For in a Republic, who is “the country Is it the Government which is for the moment in the saddle? Why, the Government is merely a servant—merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn’t. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them.

Mark Twain
