Guest guest
supposed to have showers/rain all week bleh ah well...we need it, dang drought. doesn't mean i have to like it tho... Yarrow was talkin about tomatoes, so i wanted to check something. (besides my pathetic one remaining plant) took the dogs for another walk last nite. i know of this "wild" tomato plant down the street from my place. some dropped tomato, probably from the lunch wagon parked nearby, must have sprouted. its been growing all year, so went t see how its fairing. the plant is still there, all green and flowering. its against a wall, south facing, so it gets more heat. and sun. but, looks fine. its covered in flowers, and little green fruit. the dang thing is about 12' long and 3-4' wide. creeps along the ground. nature just hangs on.... Why, the Government is merely a servant—merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn't. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them.Mark Twain---To send an email to -
Guest guest
As they ripen, I'm still eating the tomatoes I picked green a couple weeks ago before everything froze. My garden site is open to the sky with no buildings nearby, so it gets frosted by early morning dew even before the temperature hits freezing. Even the tomato plants that were covered froze. My nasturtiums also froze and turned to slime this week. But a mile away at my neighbor's house, the tomato in the big pot near the house is still going, and another one in the backyard under the deodars has new green growth on it. (See, even the tomatoes think it's spring here!) And all the nasturtiums are healthy, too. We have microclimates within microclimates here. At 7:41 AM -0800 12/22/08, fraggle wrote: .....
