Beer Of The Week

Beer: Nut Brown Ale Style: English brown ale Brewery: Samuel Smith's Old Brewery Brewmaster: Steve Parkes Location: Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, England Flavor profile: Pours a deep brown with a foamy, one-inch head. The aroma is nuts and roasted malt and the taste is very nutty, with an emphasis on hazelnut. The creamy mouth and smooth finish make this a very drinkable beer, especially for fans of nutbrown ales. Alcohol content: 5% About the brewery: The Old Brewery at Tadcaster, where Samuel Smith's is brewed, opened in 1758 and is Yorkshire's oldest brewery. Samuel Smith is one of the few remaining independent breweries in England and is the last to use the classic Yorkshire Square system of fermentation solely in stone squares. The hops are hand-weighed, and

the brewing water is drawn from a well sunk more than 200 years ago. The beer was first introduced to the U.S. market in 1978. Fun fact: All Samuel Smith beers are vegan products. Pairing: The brewery recommends serving this ale at 55 degrees and pairing it with pepper steak, paella, stir-fry, teriyaki, Thai and Chinese foods, creamy chicken and pineapple curry.

i assume they meant vegan pepper steak

:)

thier organic cider is pretty tasty as well...

i thought of myself as pretty damn sophisticated and brilliant back in like 1982 as a teen discovering that sam smith oatmeal stout and tadcaster porter were the bee's knees.

one of my instructors while i was enrolled at the American Brewers Guild interned at Sam Smith's, many many moons ago. He was set the task one fine morning of cleaning up the various tanks and kettles. he found out the hard way that you can not use the same solvents that one would use on a kettle as one would use on a yorkshire square (which are just big slabs of fitted stone up two stories high)(and they often use welsh slate peter..)....

he basically disolved the fittings....

plop, crash, went the squares....

ah, good times...good times...
