Guest guest
PETA Says 'Thank Heaven for 7-Eleven' With Award for Philly Vegan Options Philadelphia Convenience Stores Recognized for Offering Healthy and Humane Vegan Food on the Go For Immediate Release:January 9, 2009 Contact:Lindsay Rajt 757-622-7382 Philadelphia -- For providing delicious, nutritious, and cruelty-free food to vegans and vegetarians in a hurry, 7-Eleven stores in Philadelphia have won the Most Vegetarian-Friendly Convenience Store category in PETA's sixth annual Proggy Awards. 7-Eleven will receive a framed certificate and will be featured on PETA's award-winning Web site PETA.org. PETA's Proggy Awards ("Proggy" is for "progress") recognize animal-friendly achievements in commerce and culture. Many Philly 7-Elevens already feature a variety of veggie sandwiches--including faux-chicken, seitan steak, falafel, and tofu-eggsalad varieties--from local sandwichmaker Moshe's, and soon all area stores will carry them. While it is increasingly simple to find vegetarian offerings at many stores and restaurants, 7-Eleven is making it even easier for conscientious consumers to grab a bite on the go. "With the addition of veggie options to all Philly stores, 7-Eleven has made it a snap for compassionate people to find food that's tasty, convenient, and cruelty-free," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Now, even busy folks in the 'City of Brotherly Love' can show a little love to animals while improving their own health." This year, Proggy Awards have gone to producers and marketers of vegan foods, leather-free shoes, and cruelty-free personal-care products; an animal-friendly production studio; and a member of Congress.
