Guest guest
No tips I'm afraid. My dad tried to grow them but the UK doesn't really have the right climate and the grapes were very small and hard. Jo , " shinobibombay " <shinobibombay wrote: > > I have never grown grapes before. Guest guest
Not that I know for sure, but aren't grapes along the lines of growing olives? Something just tells me that Utah just isn't nearly warm enough. I'm probably wrong but then again I have awful luck with my garden to begin with. So who am I to comment? , " shinobibombay " <shinobibombay wrote: > > I have never grown grapes before. They were on sale for $5. Does anybody have any tips? Guest guest
I have no idea how they will do. I suspect you may be right about the climate. we do live at the base of the Wasatch Mtns.We got a little snow this morning. Hopefully it is in its death throws. Everybody seems to fare well with most crops. I'm toying with the idea of a greenhouse for the grapes. It might just turn out to be a pipe dream. There are no vineyards here that I know of. so, that may be a good indication. But, the liquor and beer/wine laws are so archaic here, that could be why, also. Guest guest
I went to a winery years ago in Park City grapes can be grown in utah, i think the main issue you'd have would be the dryness. i dunno what type of grapes you have, but i would hope they were an american variety and not european, as european varieties need a long growing season. i know there are still wineries down in Moab tho i'm guessing that is totally different then your environment shinobibombay Mar 23, 2009 11:23 AM Re: Just planted some grapes! Guest guest
This is good to know! i was under the impression there were none here. I am finding out that I am getting some bad information from people around here on some issues. Thank you! Guest guest
I'm growing grapes for the first time. I am in florida. In the month of January all the leaves fell off. I thought that it died. I was going to trow the plant away. Good thing I didn't because all the leaves came back and now it looks like it is doing well. I am watering it often. At least every few days. So far so good. It is a vine so it needs something to climb on. Also make sure that you pick the right one for your climate. , " heartwerk " <jo.heartwork wrote: > > No tips I'm afraid. Guest guest
I have been doing a little research. It seems that you have to prune the heck out of 'em in order to grow bigger grapes. i have also recently noticed that there are grape vines in a lot of back yards around here. I just moved here from Arizona. (Desert heat to snow) about 4 months ago. I guess the snow covered a lot. We got snow last night and more expected in the middle of the week. Anyway, I guess the grapes do ok here. I was told a bunch of crap by my father in law to be, I guess. But, that is neither here nor there. I just hope the grapes do well...
