Guest guest
How are your gardens doing. I know many of you grow a large variety of veggies. I don't yet - in fact I've cut down this year to just potatoes, beans and herbs. A couple of years time when we retire, we will have a go at growing more - although in the past the slugs and snails have one every time! Guest guest
Raspberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, raspberries! I have 30-some tomato plants in the ground, but have been eating only cherry tomatoes so far. Kales year-round. Harvested some lavender yesterday. Guest guest
Yes, it's been a good raspberry year. They were 2 weeks early, and I'm getting a good yield. I've used lavender in teas, but not this year yet. I have plans to make lavender muffins, but have to research what else to put in the recipe. I picked the lavender while it's still in bud this year, so I'm planning to dry them and use them in lavender bags. I had big plans to make lavender wands one year, but found out that I'm allergic to lavender indoors, when there's a lot of it. Same with fresh flowers -- a few are ok, but any large bouquets are too much. At 6:09 PM +0000 6/18/09, heartwerk wrote: >That sounds good - all that fruit! and plenty of tomatoes too. Guest guest
Raspberries are lovely, and so good for the health. I've never had lavender tea or cakes, but keep meaning to try them. I usually make lavender bags. I bought a lovely little bag, with a pattern of flowers on it to cross-stitch, and fill with lavender, which I was going to make for my daughter-in-law - then found out she doesn't like lavender! I wonder if dried mint would be a substitute. It's a shame you can't have a lot indoors - I love lavender. I believe it keeps moths and wasps at bay. Guest guest
meh..... finally pulling out of the "european vacation" debacle. tomatoes turned around, some of them. harvesting cherry tomatoes...rest are still just green. and i broke a good three feet off one of my hanging tomatoes by mistake while watering it. got the first blackberries the last 2 weeks zuchinni turned around, sorta, and are pumping out more fruit then we can eat. which is good, because the squirrels keep finding them as well. harvested most of the brocolli. have to harvest the last of the leeks.... harvested all the kale and collards. they had gotten leggy and i just decided i needed the space, so took em down and tossed the remains into one of the raised beds. that raised bed has been overshadowed by my pineapple and red sage plants, even tho i've trimmed em back several times this year. have to rethink what i'm going to do with it. peppers are still trying to come out of a month without water. melons never made it.... plum tree is well past its peak of producing. again, squirrels get most of em. i swear they throw the plums at me when i go outside. lil buggers occasionally pulling up onions and garlic, when needed other then that.. other then that..herbs herbs and herbs. parsley is trying to bolt, have to keep trimming it back. oregano and related fellows are spreading all over. basils are going good. have to knock back the lemon verbana and the apple mint as they keep piling over the sidewalk and blocking the way.. chives are flowering.... lost ALL my hops, as they were growing on a chainlink fence seperating my place from the next, and the neighbors did their yearly "take the backyard down to the ground" move and took EVERYTHING off the fence. grrrrrrrrrrrrr fraggle heartwerk Jun 17, 2009 11:43 PM How does your garden grown?
