Guest guest
two months ago, i made the best decision in my life. i became vegan. i grew up in the philippines and moved to SF 3yrs ago. i grew up eating meat for breakfast lunch and dinner. now after dumping that bad habit i feel great as i ever can be. i eat a lot of veggies and fruits and meat substitutes and doing very well at it.. the only challenge is im going home to the philippines in december..(with my bf, he is vegan as well) and im sure i'll be offered meat for meals. people dont believe in veing vegan in my country.. anyway, we have some dishes that only has veggies. what stuff should i eat a lot so i should still get the right nutrients? peanuts? brocolli? i mean im sure i need to eat more than that. please help thank you
Guest guest
You don't need meat substitutes. As long as you get enough calories and aren't eating junk foods, and you're eating a variety of grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits, you should be getting all the nutrients you need. Is a lot of rice served? Rice and vegetables are a great meal. Add peanut sauce if you like it, but don't overdo peanuts unless you need to gain weight. One book that talks about how to behave graciously around meat eaters (so that they will be gracious toward vegans) is by Carol Adams, entitled something like How to Live Among Meat Eaters. Good luck! Guest guest
Are you going for a holiday or living there again? I would eat plenty of vegetables, and fruit. I would include beans, lentils, rice and other grains, and nuts.
