I have been vegan just about a week now, and the strangest thing is happening.

All of a sudden i have acne. and not just a few. i have like 4 painfull spots on

my face and a bunch on my butt. this is a real problem because i never break out

like this. i get a zit like once in awhile maybe when aunt flow is visting, but

just one, and not a painfull one. These just appeared in the last 2 days!

What could be causing this sudden change? is it the coconut milk? thats like the

only saturated fat i get.

has anyone else had this, soon after becoming vegan? i dont want to hear advice

from people who have not had this, because then your advice would just be alot

of speculation. thanks.

It used to be said that once you start eating healthily your body will welcome

the chance to rid itself of all the toxins you have previously been consuming.

The skin is one of the major organs of elimination, and lots of toxins are

discharged through it.

It may well be that your vegan diet is a lot more healthy than your previous

diet, and your body is ridding itself of the toxins which have gathered.

Hi Asia

Well, I haven't had it, but since this a chat list for anyone to join in on,

you don't get to dictate who can and can't reply! Incidentally, experience

is not the only way to attain knowledge.

It's most likely your body de-toxifying. I don't know what your old diet was

like, but the more meat & dairy you ate, the more toxins build up in your

body. When you stop consuming those toxins, the body breathes a huge sigh of

relief and starts to get rid of them any way it can... it should clear up

after a couple of weeks, and you'll be a lot healthier than you were before.

your body may be reacting to the change in the diet. detoxifying if you will.

drink plenty of water, that may help.

Peter you are so funny. but right, i shouldnt dictate who replys! I mean, there

could be doctor in the room, you never know! Anyway, i hope you are all right

and its a detox. i think for the sake of trying, i will stay away from coconut

milk for a few days. Im pretty sure i just had too much saturated fat, which was

not common on my previos diet. i was on a calorie restricted diet before, and

saturated fats had waaaayy too much calories for me to consume. maybe its just

my body not used to my suddent change.

On the positive note, i have been feeling alot better. i dont have anymore

headaches like i had the first couple days. AND, ive lost almost 3lbs! This is

awesome, because i have been eating sooo much and the food taste great.

What prompted me to become a vegan was not some video about animal cruelty. I

cant watch that kind of stuff, so i never did. what happened was i got sick of

this horrible pain i had in my stomach. i could not figure out what it was. then

someone told me to stop eating dairy for a week to see if i was possible lactose

intolerant. WEll, i was! As soon as i stopped consuming dairy, the pain ive been

having for the last 6 years went away! I think i have been lactose intolerant

since i was a kid because rice pudding always gave me the runs, and ice cream

didnt sit in my stomach for more than 15-30 minutes. But i did not think

anything of it. Well now i know better.

But being vegan also means giving up meat. For me, this was not a sacrifice. I

hate meat. Not the flavor, but the concept of eating it. always did. i always

felt it was rude not to eat it, but i had to close my eyes and wish i were

somewhere else when i would swallow. meat is flesh, and its just not right.

After going dairy free and looking for dairy free recipes, i food alot of vegan

sites online. i realized " you know what, i DONT have to eat meat! " I felt

somehow liberated from this practice of eating flesh. now all i have to do is

say " im vegan " .

I think the only sacrifice i have made is salmon. i used to eat salmon once

every week. I ate it for the omega 3's and for protien. but after keeping track

of my first week of vegan diet, i discovered i am getting enough protien from

other sources and also the omega 3's.

You know Asia, I really think you were detoxing, that's why you had a headache as well as the acne and I'm sure it will pass.Patricia--- On Thu, 8/6/09, asianikuda <asianikuda wrote:asianikuda <asianikuda Re: vegan acne?
