Hi Fraggle

No, I don't really plan. Because I shop for vegetables I have a vague idea that

I need to arange meals to use up all the leeks, or all the peppers etc.

I have green beans, red and yellow peppers and broccoli to use up this weekend,

but I don't like to spend too much time cooking so will probably do a stirfry

one day, and a risotto the other.

Tomatoes and more tomatoes! I planted around 40 varieties in the

spring, and though I've been getting tomatoes since May, last week

they all started getting ripe at once. I'm picking at least 4-6

pounds every other day...it was over 8 pounds on Sunday!

I'm planning to go to a potluck, and guess what I'll bring? Heirloom

tomato salad, with red, orange, black, green, yellow and purple

tomatoes.

Process them in a food processor and freeze them to use later for sauce.Patricia--- On Wed, 8/26/09, yarrow <yarrow wrote:yarrow <yarrowRe: Weekend meals Date: Wednesday, August 26, 2009, 11:54 PMAt 7:00 AM +0000 8/26/09, heartwerk wrote:>What are you planning (if you plan) for your weekend meals?>Tomatoes and more tomatoes! I'm too spontaneous for that. There are some things I buy regularly: Silk strawberry soy yogurt, plum tomatoes, bags of frozen veggies, and fresh ones from the farmer's markets in town.

Often times I eat according to mood and sometimes I just cave and eat out at a Japanese restauarant or something.:)

LOL - I think it's been a good year for tomatoes! I guess you can make up sauces (bolognese) etc. and freeze for use later on.

We often give in to temptation and eat out - saves us having to wash up :-)

I had two plants and had all the tomatoes I could use, so I processed them and froze them. My plants looked like they were finished last week so I tried to pull them out of their containers, but couldn't, so I just cut them down and when I did I discovered a lot of new, healthy growth, so I left it and now I have two "new" tomato plants with blossoms and they look like they may produce more fruit.Patricia--- On Thu, 8/27/09, fraggle <EBbrewpunx wrote:fraggle <EBbrewpunxRe: Weekend meals Date: Thursday, August 27, 2009, 11:06 AM

most of our plants didn't survive our vacation in april

the ones that survived got hit with verticillium wilt...which is a oong term problem in the garden. you are supposed t orotate crops to get rid of it, but i have no room to rotate to! a snail could cross my backyard in a blink............

then there's the squirrels...

*sigh*

Aerated compost tea is reputed to help with verticillium. I haven't

gotten around to making any, but I do add lots of homemade compost

and then water it in.
