Guest guest
One more significant factor that is counterproductive when eating an animal-based diet is that it is contributing to the destruction of the world's environment. As more and more nations increase their consumption of animals and animal products, there is an increasingly bigger destructive impact on our environment. It takes a tremendous amount of resources (feed) to feed one cow, for example, which, in turn, can only feed a few people. If those same resources went directly for human consumption and bypassed the cow, far more people could be fed/nourished than they would be from that one animal. Also, we talk about fast foods being cheaper than healthier vegan foods, but that is only on the front end. After consuming the unhealthy, mostly animal based foods (along with mega amounts of sugar and hydrogenated oils, etc), look at the cost of treating all the diseases stemming from that "not fit for human" consumption, not to mention the poor quality of life issues from those diseases. I heard this beautiful saying (from an Indian Chief, I believe) that goes something like this: It is not that we inherit the Earth from our fathers but, instead, we borrow it from our children. And so, the question is, if we do not change ASAP (yesterday would have been better!), what will our children be receiving from us as far as their access to fresh air, water, Earth, etc.?
