Guest guest
Our local Food Fight grocery has started carrying Daiya vegan cheeze. I've tried both the cheddar and mozarella styles now. They're both good. They don't taste a thing like dairy cheese, which is just fine with me. Dairy leaves a nasty aftertaste, and it's way too fatty. But, some vegan cheeses taste pretty bad. Not so with Daiya. It has a light, pleasant taste. It also melts beautifully, and it even " strings. " I've used it for nachos and for pizza. In both cases, it did really well. I evolved from vegetarian, what, about a year ago now? Can't recall exactly. But for new vegans, let me tell you that if you love dairy, it gets better with time. At first, I really missed dairy cheese, and I didn't care for vegan alternatives. I simply made do without them. Since then, I've developed a taste for a couple of vegan varieties. Now I don't miss dairy at all. I like Tofutti slices, and their mozarella tastes good and melts well on a pizza. In my opinion, it's just as good as Daiya. I also like Follow Your Heart Vegan Gourmet cream cheese alternative. I've enjoyed Rice slices on sandwiches as well. I've also made tofu whipped cream from various vegan cookbooks with lots of success. Have a plant-based, planet-friendly New Year!
