Guest guest
Do any of you have a great homemade vegan bath oil or after bath oil/massage oil recipe? I live in a very dry climate. While we have snow right now, very little, the air is still dry as we don't get a lot of rain all year round. I think my age is a factor too. But I go through lotion like you wouldn't believe and have tried all different brands but nothing seems to work. I did purchase some bath oil from a small homebased company but they're no longer in business, which is a shame because I LOVED it. I've heard you can just put olive oil on your skin when you get out of the bath and you're still damp, is this true? Jackie
Guest guest
Jackie, I made lotion once or twice. The key is to use (or buy) lotions that don't contain mineral oil, which is drying! Lots of the drugstore-type lotions are mostly mineral oil. I used olive oil in the lotions I made (because it's so easily available), but I recall that grapeseed oil was recommended as a better (more penetrating?) oil. I may also have used beeswax (I know, not vegan) for the thickener. I haven't looked at recipes recently, but maybe cocoa butter or coconut oil would work, since they're solid at room temp. You can probably find lotion recipes online. Make sure the water-based part and the oil-based part are at the same temperature when you mix them, otherwise they may not mix fully. Or, sure, you can try plain olive oil and see how it works. Do you still have the container from the bath oil you liked? Maybe you can try to duplicate it. Guest guest
There is a company in the UK called LUSH, which makes a bath bomb called butterball which is vegan and very good. I sometimes make an after bath oil using something very light like grape seed oil, and add some drops of essential oil - usually geranium and ylang ylang. Guest guest
Thank you. I will pick up some grape seed oil and some essential oils as that sounds much nicer to me anyway than the lotions. Guest guest
LOL - it is a mixture of ingredients forming a solid ball. One ingredient is bicarbonate of soda, which fizzes like mad when in water. Jo , " cyn " <cyn84074 wrote: > > Bath bomb??? Guest guest
YES!!!! LUSH is a wonderful company!! I recently bought the Dream Cream. It was originally formulated to combat exzema (sp?). After some trama in my mom's life she developed this on her face. she went to her derm, recived some cream from him and whatever crazy ingredients were in it (that no one could pronounce) eventually gave her some side effects. We happen to be shopping one day and ran across LUSH where the cute sales lady told us all about the product. It is vegan (not all LUSH products are, but there is a good selection). Needless to say, her exzema is gone and her skin is soooo soft. , " heartwerk " <jo.heartwork wrote: > > LOL - it is a mixture of ingredients forming a solid ball. Guest guest
That's good news. I think about a third of LUSH products are vegan, the rest are vegetarian, but the staff are very helpful in telling you which are which. Jo , " Caryn " <duganck wrote: > > YES!!!!
