Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone might be interested in discussing the substitions that they have tried? I just tried parma, and i was not impressed. Too nutty tasing for me. I do like the tofutti and follow your heart cheese slices though. anyone have a good sprinkle cheese alternative? How about any chicken replacement suggestions? I do not like the chicken strip substitutes at all, they are too rubbery. I am going to use firm tofu and attempt a buffalo " chicken " dip. any suggestions for a whipped cream substitute? also looking for a vegan marshmallow substitute that works well in cooking. Thanks
Guest guest
I've heard that cool whip is in fact vegan or has a vegan version, but as I am not a whipped cream fan I'm not sure if this is true. Correct me if I'm wrong!sprightcat <sprightcat Sent: Wed, March 3, 2010 6:47:06 PM What are your favorite products? Guest guest
Here in the UK we have Redwoods foods. They make very tasty substitutes, i.e. sausages (three varieties), fish fingers, fish steaks, scampi, schnitzels, nuggets, pates, tuna, beef roast and turkey roast. They are all very good, but the chicken style pieces are excellent, and I do have those quite often. There is also a company called Fry's that makes wok strips, which are really good in stirfries. There are good cream substitutes, I think made by what sounds like a Dutch or Danish company, but I can't remember the name at the moment. Guest guest
Years ago, I made a topping for pumpkin pie at thanksgiving that was a sort of whipped cream substitute, using cashews and rice milk. It had a good flavor. I made it in the blender immediately before serving and it was quite airy. I can look for the recipe if this sounds appealing -- it may have been from The Peaceful Palate. Now and Zen Bakery used to sell a frozen whipped topping, but I never tried it and don't know if it was available outside Calif. Maybe her cookbook has a recipe? Maybe the Artful Vegan cookbook has a recipe, too -- I've made a simpler version of the very complicated trifle from that book, with the creamy layer. If I were in a hurry, I'd just use some vanilla vegan yogurt as a whipped cream sub.
