Guest guest
Wow, sounds like spring has definitely come to you!! Here in Chicago, nothing happening yet. It's a late spring so far. No crocus yet. Just a little tiny tips of daffodils and tulips starting to come up. This is really late this year. Usually, the crocus are at least in bloom. Just waiting it out!! The only problem with spring is, because of my dogs, it's really mud season. Since all the snow has finally melted, we are left with a lot of puddles and really soft ground everywhere. No complaining though!!! Happy that winter is finally on its way out!!Enjoy your spring everyone!!~~Vicky "Life is as dear to a mute creature as it is to a man. Guest guest
It sounds like you are doing well there. I love California poppies – and do grow them here, but they don’t flower until about July in my garden. Guest guest
Here in my part of the SF Bay Area, we have spring much of the year. Actually, a few seasons of spring. First, when the rains come, we get the first flushes of new green growth around Nov-Dec. Then we get a succession of native plants blooming. Around Feb-Mar we get the eastcoast bulbs such as crocus, tulip, daffodil, between rainstorms. Then we get lots more bursting into bloom Apr-May, with the storms tapering off. In June we may get a shower, but it's usually dry until Oct., with springlike warmer days and cooler nights. (In unwatered gardens, the dormant season is between July and Oct, not, as in colder climates, between Oct. and March.) We get a few winter days between Nov and April, scattered around, and a few summer days from June to Sept, a few days at a time. But most of the year is variants of spring days. A few autumn days occur in Oct-Dec, as the days get shorter and mornings nippier. This week we've had daytime highs in the 60s (F) and nighttime lows in the high 30s. My yellow crocuses bloom first. After they're done, the purple crocuses start. They just stopped blooming this week. Guest guest
Our spring gets off to a very slow start. The average for this time of year is 12 degrees C apparently, although this year it is about 8. We usually start with the snowdrops and catkins in January, go on to the crocuses and then daffodils in February and March. After that we get blossom, including the blackthorn which is one of my favourites, and then on to the May blossom which perfumes the air for a while. When the May blossoms I think summer has arrived - but the English summer can be almost any kind of weather. Guest guest
We had another frost this morning. The weather seems to be going back to normal after several years of being different. At one time our garden used to get frosts from the first week of September until the first week of May, so our flowering season was quite short. Unfortunately the forecast for Friday and Saturday is heavy rain - so there won't be much of an Quinox sunrise visible at Stonehenge!
