HI All,

My name is Kayla and I've been an ovo-lacto vegetarian for about 6 years. I'm

interested in new recipes and especially some ideas for feeding my vegetarian

toddler.

Welcome to the group! Lentils are a great source of protein (and iron) that

I just learned about recently. The fake meats, while some of them can be a

little high in calories and salt, are high in protein. One of the things I

use a LOT is TVP: http://vegetarian.about.com/od/glossary/g/TVP.htm. It's

defatted soy flour, so it's fat free, high in fiber, and higher in protein

than lean ground beef. Plus, it's cheaper than any of the processed fake

meats, and you add your own seasonings (so not too salty). My favorite ways

to use TVP are in tacos and soups and stews.

People post cookbook recipes here all of the time -- it's just nice to give

credit. :)

Don't forget nuts and seeds! They have plenty of fat, but from what I

understand, it's a beneficial type of fat, and studies have shown that

people who add nuts to their diet (without intentionally subtracting

anything) do not gain weight. Throw a few on your salad for extra

crunch, flavor, and protein.

And there's always tofu.......

Soy Protein Drink.....I have a protein issue too. Plus I need to lose weight so

I can have surgery.  Beans.....rip my tummy. Carbs pushes my pain level up. I

also have issues with my metabolism.....and I can not do any exercise from my

waist down. I can go on and on......I am keeping hope alive.  I have to

research the group dishes....only because some thing I have never heard of.

There is a lot of protein in peas and of course a lot of foods have protein in

it. Just read the box you will see that you are eating more protein than you

think.

Hi Linda

Welcome to Vegan Chat. It's a little quiet here at present, so do start a topic

if you wish.
