Hi all,

I am new to this group, so just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Ruth, I've

been a vegan for six months or so, and am finding it both easy and healthy!

(Despite the constant puzzlement of non-vegans who wonder how I survive without

cheese/ milk/ majority of cakes and chocolate!)

Hi Ruth,

Welcome to the group, and to veganism. Have you tried Green & Black's chocolate

bars?

http://www.greenandblacks.com/us/what-we-make/bars.html

They are amazing. The company just removed the vegan label from their dark

chocolate bars because they are made on the same equipment as the milk chocolate

bars. Milk is not actually an ingredient in these dark bars, however, and they

are magnificent. Share them with your non-vegan friends and they will wonder

why they ever tolerated cheap milk-chocolate bars. :)

Have a lovely day.

Hi Ruth

Welcome to Vegan Chat.

I like Plamil and Montezuma Chocolate bars. Vegan cakes are easy to make. I

used soya milk, and occasionaly Redwoods vegan cheese or Parmazano cheese powder

for cooking.

Quite a few chocolates are produced this way - both the Sainsbury and Tesco

chocolate covered mint thins.

Hi Ruth -

I'm new too, so I'll take this opportunity to tag onto your introduction and

introduce myself as well! I've been vegan for about two months now and am

feeling great! It's not nearly as difficult as I had anticipated (despite the

fact that I live in a geographic area that is not as " vegan friendly " as some).

I had just finally given up fish and seafood at the beginning of the year (no

red meat for 6 years, no poultry for the last 10 months) and moved pretty easily

into being vegan. I think it's removing the dairy from my diet that has made a

huge difference in my health and energy level.

Some of my friends are baffled and can't figure out where we could possibly go

out to eat now that I'm vegan. (I tell them to relax, I can almost always find

something on a menu - we never hung out at steakhouses anyway.) Others have

seen that it's possible and adjusted their diets more toward vegetarian and

part-time vegan plans. I am also very fortunate to have " vegan sponsor " friends

who give me long-distance advice on cookbooks, recipes, and ideas. When I last

saw them I suddenly burst out with " OMG - I'm going back to see family in June

and how am I going to stay vegan in small-town Indiana??? " They laughed and

reassured me - Subway.

Hell

Ruth,

Welcome.

Good for you for having an easy time with the switch over. I’m still

struggling on the chocolate part but once I move closer to a bigger city with

more options I will be fine.

The whipped is better than the stick, but it's slick like Crisco and doesn't even come close to tasting or acting like butter in a recipe. Oh well, it's too late now, I'm committed to my vegan way of eating.Patricia--- On Fri, 4/9/10, damiensmom <damiensmom1995 wrote:damiensmom <damiensmom1995Re: RE: hello people Date: Friday, April 9, 2010, 3:22 PM

I use Pure margarine (UK) – it works well in all my cooking.
