I wonder what would happen if you called the restaurant and explained that you

needed to come to the family outing, but due to ethical/religious beliefs and a

lack of veg-friendly foods, you would have to bring your own food and you DID

NOT want to be hassled over it, as you had NO CHOICE in the decision to go there

but you're sure Outback would want to be family friendly and help with this,

yadda yadda?

Have you tried contacting the restaurant to find out if they would do you a vegan meal - I've had quite a lot of success with that tactic, even in places that have nothing vegetarian on the menu - if the chef prides himself on being a professional, he'll normally rustle up something pretty tasty.
