Guest guest
Southern California sounds really nice this time of year! It's so cold out it hurts to have any skin uncovered -- and I'm not done with my Christmas shopping!! Guest guest
I grew up in NY State. When the snow came, as it did every year, I would love playing around in it. As i grew older, I didn't like playing around in it so much, and then feared falling, which I often did after it iced up. We moved away from NY, and one day there was a snow storm in Kentucky, followed by a rain storm, and then icy cold weather. Everything froze up. It was a sheer sheet of ice. Icicles were hanging from the trees, there was white ice/snow on the trees and the fields and although you couldn't go out because the car would slip and slide, it was truly a beautiful sight. But now I'm happy to see it in pictures. LOL! we live in South Florida and it's hot down here. :-) ________________________________ Donnalilacflower <thelilacflower Mon, December 14, 2009 9:00:42 PM [veg_grp] weather I've never really been in the snow. Guest guest
The weather has been in the 40's the past 2 weeks but starting Sunday we've been in the 70's. We've also had over 24 inches of rain since December 1st and more is coming down in torrents right now and will continue until late tomorrow. All of rivers are above flood stage and agriculture land is standing in over a foot of water. Ponding water is everywhere. The ground is saturated. The creek in our woods is like a raging river. It sure has been a challenge to hand up Christmas lights this year. You step on a ladder and you sink the legs on the ladder sink into the ground. Plus cords lying in water is a hugs no no. LOL We're loving the warmer weather, despite the rain and a positive about it is, you don't have to shovel it like you do snow. Merry Christmas everyone! Guest guest
I lived in Kansas, Illinois, Iowa and Michigan. The few times I waited on a bus in the snow in January in Detroit when my car was broken. Noooooooooooo It is also fun in Iowa, with no hills to stop the wind where I was living (Storm Lake). Um, I like California . . . Gary ________________________________ Donnalilacflower <thelilacflower Mon, December 14, 2009 6:00:42 PM [veg_grp] weather I've never really been in the snow. Guest guest
We have ice storms several times a year here. Snow is pleasant compared to that -- I'd rather have a foot of snow than 2 " of ice. My sister works for a power company, (in Kansas City before the buyer moved corporate offices to Denver 1 1/2 years ago, now she lives in Denver). While in KC, they had people visiting from their South Dakota office -- as soon as their visitors arrived, a huge ice storm hit Kansas City, and as they were dealing with the crisis, they kind of had to abandon their visitors while dispatching press releases, employee communication, etc. The visitors from South Dakota were horrified and the Kansas City employees said what's up, you guys get a ton more snow than we do, what's the matter? They said, we get snow in SD, we can handle snow -- we've never seen ice like this, we don't get ice storms! Guest guest
It's so funny that eryone thinks SoCal is snow free. We live in SoCal, in the desert, and we had a foot of snow last year that lasted 3 days. They canceled the last 3 days of school before winter break because no one out here knows how to deal with it. So funny. But the best part of the snow last year...it came on my birthday!! I woke up at 6am and looked outside. The snow had just started falling. Very magical (especially because everyone FORGOT my birthday until 6pm when my 8 year old said, " Isn't it your birthday, mommy? " ) They aren't forgetting this year, I won't let them (It's in two days...ha ha ha)! And this year, the town next to us had snow last week, we just had rain. We've had frost so far... And it did snow once when I was growing up in SoCal in San Bernardino County (Fontana). It lasted all of about 5 minutes. Ugh...Disappointing to a kid. Guest guest
Where in the desert are you? I lived in Barstow from first through fourth grade in the early 1960's. Mike P.S. If you don't think it snows in SoCalifornia, try getting through Cajon Pass or the Grapevine after a big winter storm! :-) At 12:56 PM 12/15/2009, itshotinjt04 wrote: It's so funny that eryone thinks SoCal is snow free. Guest guest
Tejon Pass on HW5 was all snowy when we returned from the Bay area from Thanksgiving holiday! I like where I live. We occasionally get snow in the local mountains and we can hike from my house up about 3000 feet added elevation or more (about 10+ miles round trip) nice medium hike and we get to go visit the snow and touch it. Then we return home and do not have to shovel snow from the driveway! , Mike Christie <mike wrote: > > Where in the desert are you? Guest guest
Where in Co are you, Terri? My sister is in Denver. It seems like you get more snow there than we do in Kansas City, but it melts faster. I love Colorado! My sister keeps trying to talk me into moving out there, but I don't want to take another bar exam -- 2 was enough! Guest guest
We are still having frosts and our daily high temperature is around 12 centigrade. We are having a fair amount of sunshine though, particularly in the mornings. Our little tomato plants are still very small due to the cold, and even my herbs are slow in getting started this year. Guest guest
coolest and wettest spring i can remember here... every week for months we get some sort of rainfall here very very very unusual for us. heartwerk May 12, 2010 2:46 AM Weather We are still having frosts and our daily high temperature is around 12 centigrade. Some of my friends sit around every evening And they worry about the times ahead But everybody else is overwhelmed by indifference And the promise of an early bed You either shut up or get cut up, they don't wanna hear about it It's only inches on the reel-to-reel And the radio is in the hands of such a lot of fools Tryin' to anaesthetise the way that you feel Radio Radio
Guest guest
Hi Fraggle You've certainly had strange weather this year. I think our winter and spring have been more like they used to be a few decades ago. Jo
