My daughter gave me this great travel tea cut with a tea strainer in it, as

I drink loose leaf tea, and today I used one of the gift cards I got to

buy an immersion blender, my daughter and I are looking forward to using it.

We are looking forward to using it, however it will not be tonight as we

are making a celebration roast with veggies and potatoes.

My husband just saw it in the kitchen as asked now what did you buy that we

don't have a place for.

I love kitchen gadgets.

Jeanne, I am also envious of the Vitamix, I really don't have a place to

keep one even if I could afford one.

I have made a personal decision to not celebrate Christmas, but I bought a

pressure cooker recently and hope I can use it to advantage. :-) Cindi

Me too! Still trying to figure out what to make in it beside smoothies.

I also got a 'buffet style slow cooker thing'. It actually has three 2

1/5 qt. pots. It makes it much easier to accommodate the veggie/omni/

pickie eaters in my family.

GeGee I'm not sure what a ricer is - perhaps you could post a link to one so we

could suggest uses!

Before Christmas I treated myself to Veganomicon and I also bought Vegan a

Go-Go! by Sarah Kramer and The 100 Best Vegan Baking Recipes by Kris Holechek.

So far I've made Raunchy Red Lentil Soup from VaGG which was lovely. I received

some money for Christmas so I have just ordered a SoyQuick Premier machine which

comes complete with a kilo of soya beans and a tofu making set. I've also

ordered culture for making vegan yoghurt and vital wheat gluten to make the

chickpea cutlets from Vcon. The vital wheat gluten had a minimum order price and

really hefty postage so I also ordered some different bread flours to make my

order up to the minimum amount - I sure hope it's worth it! So I'm planning some

adventures in the kitchen in the New Year :-)

For Christmas dinner I adapted the recipe for mushroom pecan burgers whch I

posted here in the summer. I cooked it as a roast, with a ribbon of pureed

chestnuts sandwiched in the middle. Served it with roasted potato, sweet potato,

parsnip and carrot, steamed brussel sprouts and peas and with a tomato, mushroom

and basil sauce. Yummy!

We got a new fridge! It's a Frideagaire(sp), and it's a 17 cubic foot

one, 2 whole cubic feet bigger then our old one. Great to not have food

spoiling anymore! The old one wasn't sealing properly, and we finally

convinced our property manager to get a new one. We did kick in some

money towards it so we could get some bells and whistles we wanted,

though, but it was worth it! I also got some measureing cups and spoons

with braille marking on them, and they also have some really unique

amounts, like 3/4 cup, and 1/8 tsp, which I think is cool!

Every year my DH picks a theme for Christmas gifts. This year was my kitchen

and keeping warm (cozy socks and new boots for the farm). I got a brand new

Bosch EcoSense dishwasher, a new set of dishes, new knife set, new glass storage

bowls, an awesome new cookie sheet (got it early when I was baking cookies) and

thanks to our parents enough Home Depot gift cards to put a new floor in!! Plus

my Grandparents also bought us both a new vegetarian cookbook.

The gifts everyone received are great! I did not receive anything for Christmas.

However, I was at my daughter's for Christmas and received what I wanted and

really needed. She was at the sink mashing potatoes when a nearby candle caught

her hair on fire. Thankfully, her husband was close enough to push her head in

the sink and douse her with water as she screamed I'm on fire. The flames went

to the top of the window but she was all right other than scorched hair and red

scalp.  We had dinner with her soaked hair piled on top of head and her

beautiful, unmarred face smiling.

Christmas gift. :)
