Me too! Ah the joys of buying a wreck of a house. It will be so nice to have

indoor plumbing again. Funny how one takes it for granted until one needs to

trek to the back forty in the middle of the night, flashlight and shovel in one

hand and the Sears Roebuck catalog (aka toilet paper) in the other.

Ah Jeanne. This reminds me of my grandparents' house in the Welsh mountains

where the outside toilet was up some steps at the back of the house - seemed

like halfway up the mountain to me as a small child. The wind whistled through

the gaps in the stonework and toilet paper was torn up squares of newspaper

impaled on a nail in the wall. I hated having to head off there at night with my

torch, frightened that snakes might be lying in wait for me.

Enjoy your new indoor plumbing and get Carl to check out that there are joists

beneath the kitchen! Christie

How marvelous, another Taffy! Tad (aka Father) was Welsh, Mum Native American

(Iriquois Nation, itty bitty tribe called Ashinipeg - not sure of spelling).

Nothing like dashing outside, trying to not have an accident or get accosted by

the livestock.

Carl let the blind dog go in the back yard alone today and the beast dug an

elephant pit. Naturallly I fell in the bloody thing whilst attempting to answer

nature's call. Needless to say, I've had to change my jammies, throw my slippers

in the wash and do the sponge bath thing in the kitchen. ARGH! Blasted cats at

least have litter boxes.

Re-did the kitchen about 15 years ago and yup, you guessed it, no joists there,

either. We bought the house because of the 300 plus year old oak in the front

yard and acreage. My friend fro

Sorry, Jeanne - I'm mostly Paddy rather than Taffy - the family was just passing

through Wales, although we used to call them Mam and Tad (I had forgotten that -

thank you!). So I'm part English, part Irish via Wales and a domiciled Scot,

which pretty much takes in the whole British Isles.

Sorry to hear of your fall into the heffalump trap - staying at your place

sounds pretty hazardous!
