Great ideas - thanks! > I have been raising a flock of backyard chickens for over 30 years now I currently live in a co-op apartment which has a small terrace. If I should some day find myself on that large plot of land of my dreams, chickens will be part of the mix (along with a couple of sheep and rows and rows of every vegetable I ever thought about growing). Right now (well, not right now because it's January in New York) I grow tomatoes, peppers, and herbs in containers on the terrace. No critters....... :-( Alex
Guest guest
I found eggs for $1.50 a dozen on craigslist. Totally worth it, they're from a family farm, the lady told me the first time I met her to buy some that the family hens get to go wherever they want (on 2 acres) and eat whatever they want -- they particularly like her dad's tomatoes when they're ripe! Guest guest
I hope that someday you acquire that plot of land so you can have chickens, a garden and some sheep. I lived " in town " , in Irving, a suburb of Dallas growing up, and have lived in east Texas since 1979. The Dallas/Ft. Worth area has grown SO much since I was a child and the traffic is horrible. I like living in a more rural area. We usually have a garden besides having my chickens. Sheep and other small farm animals take more room and a good shelter. So although they are a good small farm animal to have, we will probably stick to just chickens. We are also a Dachshund rescue and the dogs are quite a bit of work. I much prefer living " out " to living " in town " . I hope you get to experience it someday. Nancy C.
