Guest guest
I apparently have not had tofu prepared very well. I live where a WM is the main source of grocery shopping next to Harvey's supermarket. I would like to try a well prepared tofu, but have had it on several occasions at palces like Moe's Grill, but found it to be of poor texture, like chewing a sponge, and flavorless. I would like to give it another try. I would also like to know where to find the nutrional yeast in a WM. What section would that be found in. Thanks for the help. Guest guest
I am assuming by WM you mean Walmart. Ours does not sell nutritional yeast. I have to buy mine from the health food store or order it online. Cherie , Dena Deen <tigriss007 wrote: > > I apparently have not had tofu prepared very well. Guest guest
I don't think Walmart sells nutritional yeast. You would have to go to a more full-service grocery store (health food section) or to a health food store. I would suggest you try pad thai with tofu at a good Thai restaurant, or if there is a Noodles & Company near you, try any of their Asian dishes (but their pad thai has fish sauce in it) with tofu. I have loved all the tofu I have had from Thai places (but not at Chinese restaurants). Good luck! Guest guest
I am not an expert on tofu, but have noticed that the spongy texture is more noticeable after freezing. Soft or silken tofu does not have the spongy texture, but it is very mushy and only good to use when mixing into things. Tofu can be good, though, if made correctly. Find some marinade recipes and marinade the tofu, then fry or bake. That will give you a start and you will find that tofu can have a nice taste. Guest guest
Unfortunately I don't live near any Thai places, even within a 70 mile radius. I would have to drive 2.5 to 4 hours to find a place like that. I live in a very rural area of southeast/central Georgia. I will try a Kroger for the nutritional yeast since they do have a nice organic/health section. I will also try my local health food store, though they don't even carry Quoina. I did ask them to order me some, but they were unable to get it from a supplier or didn't call me to tell me it was in. Quoina is considered a foreign food here. They didn't even know what it is. I'll get to a Kroger eventually and hope to find the Quoina there or at a better health food store in Valdosta that carries many vegetarian foods and grains. Thanks for the help. Guest guest
I will eat any type of tofu right out of the package, I don't like the rubber sponge texture of tofu after you freeze ands thaw it. I know 90% of the tofu eaters seem to prefer the freeze and thaw method though. I like the fried bean curd squares from the Asian market, I dice those up and toss in my stir fry, they keep their shape. Donna
