Guest guest
Is there some way to bake potatoes in a crock pot? I love " real " baked potatoes (not the microwave variety), but because of the farm i can't always be around the house to keep an eye on the cooking. But i love the toasted potatoe skin some of the things i have considered is would the heat (in the absense of any liquid) crack the clay pot? could i wrap the potatoes in foil? thanks in advance for your comments... PS Donna, u are still in our thoughts and we miss u ...southern redneck boy
Guest guest
I've not baked White potatoes in my crock pot but I do bake Sweet Potatoes in my Crock Pot. I wash them well and then wrap each potato individually with foil. You can pack it really full. Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 1/2 hours. The skins will be so tender you want to eat them too. They ave very moist and delicious this way. At Thanksgiving, I always prepare my Sweet Potatoes like this before making into a casserole. Guest guest
Hi - I have been a member of the list for some time, but this is my first posting. I am a 66-year-old grandmother of 8, living in Florida. I love to use my crockpot. You can bake potatoes in your crock pot and they will be super - they turn out like those unnamed steakhouse restaurant backed potatoes. Wash and place the whole potatoes in a crock pot (unpeeled) and pack a thick layer of kosher salt all around them, covering completely by about two inches. This will take a fair amount of kosher salt, but it can be reused about 10 times before it is too messy and has to be replaced. Cook on high for about three hours, or until the potatoes are done all the way through. These are really good and the skin is to die for! Guest guest
I bake potatoes in the crockpot all the time. Just wash and wrap with foil and cook on low for 6-8 hours. They come out so good we eat them plain. Cherie in ND
Guest guest
Six to eight seems like a long time. Is there a quicker way to do it and still get the same taste. Guest guest
I also bake potatoes in my crockpot. Being a lazy cook, I wash and trim the potatoes, then put them in the pot that has been sprayed lightly with a nonstick spray. I sprinkle a pinch or so of kosher salt over the potatoes. Cook on high or low until done. The moisture from the washed, but not dried, potatoes is enough to keep the potatoes from drying out. I don't know if it is the potato or the slow cooking, but I find the potatoes baked in the crockpot to be better than other potatoes.
