Guest guest
Don't know the medical answers but, I am a diabetic and have been off medicine for a few years. Many times it can be controlled by diet and exercise alone, but you have keep it monitored with blood tests to make sure. One of the biggest problems is some of the doctors I had did not agree with my way of eating, regardless of the fact, that I am doing so well. My A1C is 5.8, I am 5 ft tall and weight 105, which they say is perfect for my age of 63, my cholesterol is very low and going down, the bad stuff that is, Trans fats are almost non-existent in my body etc, etc, etc. She will have to find out what works well for herself. I eat only whole wheat products, beans, tofu, seitan all of which I make myself and my blood tests are coming out fine, as you can see. Not all doctors are always right I had to ditch mine.lol I am going to a younger one now that is very happy with me and my vegan life.lol I would advise your friend to continue to get her blood tests and continue on the vegan trail. If they keep a good eye on the blood tests they will tell her if there is any problem with the kidneys, although I doubt that there will be. That kind of problem kind of develops in diabetics because of the side effects of medication. Sorry about that but, it's the truth. Sometimes the medicine is needed anyway. I had to have it at first till I got mine under control. Some diabetics always will need medication. That depends on indiviual choices as to diet and exercise. I had one person whose Dad was a diabetic tell me she could never watch her food and exercise like I do, if she gets diabetes she will just take insulin to control. To each his own, as I said, it's a matter of choice and sometimes the diabetes won't respond as well to diet and exercise as mine has either.
