21-day vegan challenge

I did the 21-day vegan challenge that several other members on this list

have talked about. I stuck to it pretty well, and lost about 5 pounds! I've

been really surprised how easy it has been. I'd like to lose another 5

pounds, and I don't think it will be hard if I keep doing what I have been

doing. I will eat a meal with dairy in it (usually cheese) once a week. I

don't think I will ever be able to call myself a full-time vegan (who

knows?) but I think I can call myself a full-time vegetarian and a part-time

vegan. :)

I have cut back on sugar very little -- I'm definitely a sugar addict! I

found a good recipe for vegan chocolate chip cookies, and some reasonably

priced chocolate chunks that do not contain dairy. I always crave something

sweet after a meal... I've been eating a lot of Lara Bars -- they're

awesome! They're date and nut bars, usually with some kind of flavoring

added in -- I love the lemon ones, and the cherry pie flavor have dried

cherries in them, which are really good.

I'm interested to see what other people thought of it.

I didn't know anything about the 21 day challenge.  However, what started our

family down the vegetarian road was similar, only with more restrictions.  We

had no meat or meat products, only whole foods and no sweeteners.  It wasn't

horrible.  Now that our time is up, we are still enjoying the vegetarian meals

and have eaten meat a couple of times, only to feel really sick afterwards.

However, we eat sugar once again more often than we should, lol.  The good part

is that the intake has decreased drastically.  My son and I both lost about ten

pounds, my husband lost weight too, but he wasn't overweight to begin

with....was just growing a belly that is now completely gone.  None of us have

exercised (I have two babies under two....who has time to exercise, especially

when one has colick!)  But we were very strict meat eaters before we started

our 21 days with a whole new diet.  We had meat almost every meal and there was

never a time that there

wasn't some sort of junk food in our house.  It changed our life drastically,

and Jesus willing, it will stay that way!

the 21 day vegan challenge is something that was done independent of this group,

for those who missed it I read that they are going to do another one starting

March 1st. heres a link.

I did the first one and am happy to say that I am now eating a vegan diet. I

have lost close to 10 pounds already.

Good luck

I also did the 21 Day Vegan Challenge and enjoyed it more than I thought I

would. I thought they provided some great recipes and made the meal plan very

easy to follow. It was easier to give up cheese than I thought it would be, but

I really did miss milk!

It did make dining out somewhat difficult but I did discover some great vegan

restaurants around me that I wasn't aware of. I will never become a strict

vegan, but I will continue to use many of their recipes.

Cherie, congrats on losing 10 pounds! you should be very proud of yourself!

Jen, which recipes did you like? I didn't try any of them, none of them

really sounded good to me. I ended up eating meals that usually eat that are

vegan, or that I made vegan by using dairy substitutes or leaving out

dairy/egg. I missed milk some, too -- more than cheese. I have always been a

milk drinker, but I did discover that I can drink a whole glass of

unsweetened almond milk (I've been buying the Blue Diamond brand - original

unsweetened) with cookies and it's pretty good. (I don't care for soy milk)
