Steamers and rice cookers

I have several. The Black and Decker combo is wonderful, I have butternut

squash in it right now, makes perfect fluffy rice too.

I also use a Faberware stainless steel soup pot with the steamer insert.

Then I have the inserts that fan out, I have 2 rice cookers that double as

steamers. I use all these things at one time quite often. I will have lentils

in one rice cooker, rice in another, soup keeping hot in another, veggies

steaming in the last one. They are all part of my beloved long list of favorite

appliances.

Now if my Blackberry trackball would behave Grrrrrrr I'm ready to toss it in the

street right now.

I've had several, priced from the substantially over $100 to a more affordable

one and all have their plusses. My old Zojirushi made perfect rice every time,

including sticky rice but that was just about all it did. But as I said, the

rice was always perfect and kept at perfect serving temperature a couple of

hours. It survived several bounces off the floor, courtesy of our feline

companions and was used at least once daily for several years. I'd love another

but no way am I going to plunk out that much money.

Our current one is a Black and Decker which I've had for a couple of years now

and I love it. I can steam veggies as well as makes lovely rice and I can even

do a veggie and rice dish in it. I have even cooked eggs in the solid insert

while veggies were steaming in the other. When this one goes to the Great

Appliance Recycling Bin in the Sky, I'll buy another. It makes less rice than

the old Zojirushi, but now that it's just the two of us, the B and D makes just

enough.

thanks for all the input everyone!! it sounds like the Black n Decker one is

popular, but Jeanne mentioned it does not make alot of rice? does anyone know

how many cups it makes? I will have to look into it. The really nice rice

cookers are so expensive plus I hate to add any etra appliances than I really

need since my kitchen sort of small as it is.
