Guest guest
I enjoy cream of wheat, especially in the cold weather. I tend to throw a goodly handful of dried cranberries or mixed dried fruit into the water and bring it to a boil for a few minutes before I mix in the cream of wheat. Makes those dried fruits plump back up and flavors it oh so nicely. You don't even need to add any sweetner as the berries sweeten it up automatically. Dennis Three flurries a blizzard lol. Try the two feet we got hit with followed a few days later by a foot and a half or more.
Guest guest
When I grew up I had no idea that any type of boxed cereal existed and I'm so glad now. At one time I thought I was deprived. We were lucky to have milk toast for breakfast and I still would love it but I seldom eat bread. Cream of Wheat and Oatmeal would have seemed like a Queen's breakfast to me. It has been so easy for me to become a Vegetarian. LOL I gave my children Cream of Wheat, oat meal and all those wonderful things like French Toast and Waffles, Eggs Goldenrod, and home made granola. What a blessing that was. And all their children eat packaged cereal. Sigh! Guest guest
My parents were donuts for breakfast types and Mother did breakfast once a week - crispy fried eggs, bacon, sausage and toast slathered in margarine. They were huge meat people too, which I suspect is one of the reasons Father died of colon cancer. I've always been a breakfast lover and veggie fiend. I got in trouble more times than I like to remember because I'd sneak steak to the dog. My dog really loved me. I married a breakfast and veggie man. We had been eating vegetarian meals for about a month before Carl realized we hadn't been eating meat. He didn't miss it. As long as he gets good farm eggs he's a happy camper. We still have breakfast for dinner as much as regular veggie meals. I'm going to do the Goldenrod eggs for dinner tomorrow night. They sounded really good. Carl went by the chicken farm tonight and picked up a few dozen eggs. The farmer had just rounded the girls up and penned them in the barn since it is snowing down here. (First time in over 20 years we've had over one snowflake.) Stay warm! Hugs, Jeanne in snowy Southwestern GA (snowing in Northern Florida, too.) Guest guest
I do that with oatmeal, I don't think I've ever actually had cream of wheat, I'll have to try that. I love dried cranberries, could eat them on (almost) anything! Audrey On Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 12:02 PM, DennSedai <DennSedai wrote: > > > I enjoy cream of wheat, especially in the cold weather. Guest guest
Yum, I never considered adding dried fruit or cranberries to my Cream of Wheat. Thanks for telling me about that. Jeanne in GA
Guest guest
It gives it a lovely bit of added depth. I know I usually use the dried cranberries, but I spotted at Target a mixed bag of dried cherries, blueberries and cranberries *sighs* That's a delicious blend to add to either oatmeal or the cream of wheat, plus a booster for health. Guest guest
I have finally been released from the nursing home for a broken hip, broken knee cap, and broken ankle, and I found a great apartment and bought groceries. I have Grape Nuts, Shredded Wheat, Farina, and regular Oatmeal. One of my favorite breakfasts is an asparagus omelet with fresh mushrooms and cheese. Guest guest
I love cream of wheat (made with half water and half soya milk). My kids get very little boxed cereal but absolutely love cream of wheat, oatmeal (old fashioned or steel cut), and red river. I adore red river or any other multi-grain cereal. I grew up on all that stuff. We only got cheerios, puffed wheat, and other non-sugar cereals growing up. My cousins used to get all the sugar cereals (count chocula, boo berry, etc) so when we went there (rarely) by siblings and I would go crazy with all the sugar.
