Guest guest
Marilyn, you're home! I have thought of you so often, stuck there in the nursing home. Are you doing well and have you refrained from over-doing while getting your new home up and running. (Yeah, right, sure you aren't over-doing. Pigs may fly at any time before you and others on the list don't hit the floor running as soon as you wake!) Is there someone who can help you out with shopping, driving and stuff till you are completely back to Mari-Normal? (Marilyn broke a hip, knee cap and ankle and was in Chez Needles a la nursing home for months and months - eons even - whichever way, way too much time!) I wish you were closer to us here in GA. I can't drive but the husband person takes direction fairly well and is learning how to shop. (sort of) For heaven's sake, if you have snow/sleet/yuk in your area, please please stay inside. Not that you would get outside in the slippery mess because you wanted to do for yourself. Cough cough. Some dear people on this list (the names Donna, Marilyn and Judy, PJ and company come immediately to mind) would rather do for themselves rather than get some assistance. Please dear veggie sister, don't overdo. Please, please? Let's not go breaking more bones. Sure, everyone needs a hobby but breaking parts of your anatomy isn't really high on the list of fun things to do, as you know better than most! Incredibly happy you are home.*Doing the happy dance for you* Ya'll behave now, ok? Love and hugs, Jeanne in GA
Guest guest
Jeanne, I am doing great. I am doing all my shopping and driving and cleaning. I don't have all my furniture yet. I am buying pieces monthly when my check comes in. I am buying collectibles and enjoying it. White oak in the kitchen (table, chairs, and hutch, early 50s), and my bedroom set will be delivered the beginning of March (bureau and a huge four-poster in Mahogany). The bureau doesn't look like a bureau and will go in the living room. Then I will need a couple of recliners and some side tables and I will be done. Every time I walk by the kitchen table, I run my hand across it. Rough eating vegetarian at the nursing home, so I am about 25 pounds heavier, or was when I got here. I have lost 6 pounds already just eating well. I make sure one meal is plain yogurt, wheat germ, grape nuts, and fruit. Boy, do I ever love that!! My stamina was very low when I started, but I can really go now. Thanks!! It was 7-1/2 months in the nursing home, but the last 2 months was for the broken ankle which was done by a female in an electric wheelchair who plowed into the side of my manual wheelchair while I was eating supper. Guest guest
Marilyn, I don't know how I missed that you had been injured and were in a nursing home! So glad to hear you're doing better. How awful to be injured again in the place that was supposed to be helping you to recover!! Your apartment and new furniture sound beautiful, I'm happy for you. Hang in there and take care of yourself. Audrey On Sat, Feb 13, 2010 at 7:02 AM, Marilyn Daub <mcdaub wrote: > > > Jeanne, I am doing great. I am doing all my shopping and driving and > cleaning. Guest guest
I have read that nutrition courses are not required in medical school, they would be an elective, if you choose to take them. Guest guest
Thanks, Audrey. I am really doing well now. The hip replacement is wonderful. I am walking without a cane or any other device. Only 5% of the people who break their hip and leg are able to do this, and this is my second time of accomplishing it. It was difficult to get all vegetarian foods at the home, but I managed it. M On Behalf Of Audrey Snyder Saturday, February 13, 2010 9:35 AM Re: [veg_grp] Marilyn's HOME!!!!! Guest guest
The doctor who took care of me when I was in for pancreatitis ordered a vegetarian diet for me and made sure they did it right. The dietician was greatly miffed. They finally figured out the full liquid diet wasn't that bloody hard to do. (Strain a can of Campbell's Vegetarian Vegetable soup, heat and serve or get some vegan friendly gelatin, and apple juice - duh.) We had a long discussion about vegan diets while I was in there and I am listed as " She Who Is To Be Called " for when they have vegetarian patients, lol! IMO, the veggie diet is a heck of a lot healthier for most folk, so I can't imagine why the dieticians and nutritional experts have such a problem with it. When Carl was first diagnosed as diabetic, the one who lectured us said he needed to eat more vegetables. I told her we were vegetarians and she was totally at a loss as to what to say since we went off the printed page mentality. Then she said he needed more fiber - uh...vegetarian, whole grain bread, whole grain pasta, beans, etc... I suspect she was really glad to see us gone! Guest guest
I know that doctors only need one semester of nutrition. I don’t know what nurses have to have, but the dietitian should be required to have many of them. M On Behalf Of glpveg4life Saturday, February 13, 2010 2:53 PM Re: [veg_grp] Marilyn's HOME!!!!! Guest guest
That is so ridiculous!! That dietitian needs a new vocation with no interest in food.
