Guest guest
ooohhh..... I like that idea very much! That would be a good investment in case I ever decided I was adventurous enough to try waffles... I think I'll bid on this -- what is a reasonable price for something like this? Guest guest
Hey Audrey..... The best way to determine a " fair " price might be to go to ADVANCED search, and then click on COMPLETED SEARCH.....see how many of them have sold in the last 30 days and what the ending bids were. It is hard to put a " value " on any vintage item because it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. What I might be willing to pay is not the same as what you would be willing to pay because I already have one.....well, actually, I have two. I gave one of the ones I have to our 21 year old daughter who lives with our youngest daughter in a duplex while they are going to college. I paid .50 cents for the first one I bought, and it is the one I use......I think I paid only a couple of dollars for the second one at a garage sale. I noticed that this one started out at $12.99 and is now up to $20.50.....plus you have your shipping, and this is a pretty heavy waffle iron/sandwich grill. So, it really just all depends on what you want to spend. One of the things I like best about this waffle iron/grill is that the plates are easy to remove to change them around or to take them off to clean. When I clean my plates after I use it, I let it cool.....fill the sink with hot soapy water and then just put the plates in the water to soak for a bit and then clean them. You can use a brush to clean the waffle side and an SOS pad on the smooth side. Dry thke plates well and just snap them back on the base....and the plates are marked TOP and BOTTOM. I did notice that there were several listed right now. Seems like I did a search for....general electric waffle iron.....but you could also search for......g. e. waffle iron......g.e. waffle iron sandwich grill.......there is usually more than one way to search for any one particular item. You always want to note the condition of the chrome, if it has all of it's parts (handles, etc.), it needs to be in GOOD working condition, the cord needs to be in good condition...no cracks in it. You want to ask about the condition of the plates....both sides. You can clean it....both sides of the plates and the chrome, but an already cleaned up one is nice. You also want to ask if the temperature setting knob slides easily along the temperature setting bar. Having lots of pictures is always a good thing. You can make a sandwich on the grill plate side, with the grill open or you can close it and have the top press down on the sandwich. This particular waffle iron/grill will open up and lay flat which is great for making pancakes as well. And, remember.......if you don't get this one.....or want to look for one that costs a little less.....on ebay, another one will come along soon. This model was very popular. And, having an instruction book is great but if you buy one of these that doesn't have one, I can have my husband copy my booklet for you. I wish you all the best of luck in getting just the right one! Nancy C. nancihank > ooohhh..... I like that idea very much! Guest guest
Great tips, thanks, Nancy! I wondered about the cords, but my local appliance repair place will replace cords for $20 -- which sounds like a lot but not if I got a waffle iron for less than that... I'll keep looking, thanks again for the tips!
