Guest guest
I've been getting my seed catalogs in (there goes the budget) and have been drooling over them. I want to rave about one company, Raintree Nursery. The catalog isn't as thick as Burpees but I want everything in it (like that's a huge surprise). They have fruit I've never seen in the US, like gooseberries (which don't contain any poultry), elderberries, goumi, jujubees, porcelain berrrries, pineapple guava, thimbleberry, serviceberries, and currants (those I've had in jams - heaven.) They even have wolfberries. (Does one start baying at the moon after eating those?) Great stock on heirloom apples, grafted apples, grafting stock (even instructions on how to graft your own), mushrooms...Darnit, I'm drooling. The catalog is free and mine came in a week. www.raintreenursery.com The prices are very good. A 4 " pot of thornless blackberry may not sound like much but if the wild ones down here can easily grow a foot in a month, I'm willing to bet the ones at Raintree will do that as well. They even have thornless blackberries which can produce 30 pounds of fruit a season. (Triple Crown Thornless - will need trellis for support) Anyone on the list from Washington State? If you're near Raintree Nursery in Morton, they offer a bunch of classes from basics to what I'd consider master gardening classes. I am green with envy, if you are. They also have special deals on plants too big to ship, which makes my plant envy even worse so don't tell me! OK, do tell me because I wuvs all of you even if you can go to the fruit tree heaven. Oh, and soft shell almonds. I'm getting two of those even if we end up eating macaroni and cheese and beans for a month. (All In One, self fertile, zones 7 through 9, $23.95) Fig lovers? They have some cold weather tolerant figs so no longer do you need suffer from figgie envy. But remember what I said last year, Do Not Eat A Lot At One Time. Let's just say you won't need a laxative for a long, long time. Hugs, Jeanne in GA
