Guest guest
Ok, so I finally noticed how much cheaper dried chickpeas are than canned -- so I bought a bag of dried ones. Now, once I cook these suckers, can I freeze them and defrost later? It would really be a pain to have to soak overnight and cook for an hour each time I want chickpeas... Guest guest
Yes, you can freeze them, and I would suggest freezing them in 1-1/2 cup servings, because that's what comes in a can. Guest guest
Yep We do it all the time. Most of the directions I've seen say to add some water, but I never have and they're great. We go through them quickly, though. It might make a difference if you're freezing them for a few months or more. Guest guest
Good deal, thanks, Mo. I guess how fast I would go through them depends on how many 15-oz cans equal 1lb of dried... Maybe I'll just do 1/2 pound this time and see how fast I go through them! I'm planning on freezing in 1-2 cup portions in ziploc bags. Guest guest
I much prefer to cook my own chickpeas and freeze them all the time. But I always cook them three to four hours because I don't like crunchy undercooked beans. _____ On Behalf Of Audrey Snyder Tuesday, March 02, 2010 2:21 PM [veg_grp] dried chickpeas question Ok, so I finally noticed how much cheaper dried chickpeas are than canned -- so I bought a bag of dried ones.
