Guest guest
This is, of course, Off Topic, and I give the disclaimer-- " I am not a doctor " , etc. But, seriously, regarding your unfortunate ear infection, I think doctors are these days (rightly so) cautious about prescribing antibiotics for many illnesses that it used to be " standard treatment " for. I am one of those " baby boomers " , so you can guess my age (ha!). My younger brother had numerous ear-aches during his early childhood. My mom & dad took him to a small-town family doctor, who recommended " Bro " get repeated and regular injections of penicillin " to prevent " more ear-aches. I can remember this LITTLE boy, my brother at 3 1/2 or 4 years old, walking the block or so BY HIMSELF several times during one summer to get his " weekly " (or however often it was) " shot " of penicillin. NOW I cringe at all that antibiotic being pumped into his young body! People develop allergies, tolerances and, more importantly, RESISTANT infections when antibiotics are used if they are not ABSOLUTELY necessary. It's a terrible shame, though, that an adult or child has to wait until the infection " ruptures " the eardrum to get some kind of relief from an earache. Sure, the body DOES eventually heal and many of these ruptures seal back up with no problems--there can be scarring that affects the hearing, however. And the lead-up to the " rupture " is certainly very painful! (I've experienced it a couple of times in my life--don't want to any oftener than that!) In the meantime, do whatever you can to keep comfortable and REST! (If you can't rest in bed, at least try and take some " rest-breaks " and slow down so your body can deal with this issue. I hope and pray you get relief soon! {{{{hugs!}}} and definite sympathy! --Laura B., in Illinois PS: My husband's paternal grandmother swore by that home remedy you mentioned--the " fresh pee " thing. I have a feeling my dear spouse once or twice " tried " it as a kid. I don't know which " treatment " makes me cringe more--my brother getting a shot every week whether he had an ear-ache or not or my (then future) in-laws " making water " to put in someone's EAR whenever the malady struck! EEEEWWWWWWW!!!!
Guest guest
I think that I missed the original posting, but if someone is looking for relief from an ear infection, my doctors have recommended the use of herbal garlic oil. I have used it on my children and husband. Warm the oil by putting the bottle in a glass of warm water. Put a few drops in BOTH ears a few times a day. Hubby says it feels good and we like the smell of garlic around here. For the children, I have put cotton in the ear to prevent it from seeping back out too soon. Wishing you comfort soon, Christine C.
Guest guest
to help the symptoms, heat up some salt in a skillet, a couple of cups of it, and pour into an old white sock and tie. This makes an excellent heating pad for the ear and will draw out some pain. My mother used it when I was little. you can adjust the sock to fit right where you want it on the ear and it stays warm for a long time.
