Guest guest
If you are looking for something safe for a vegan, I'd ask for a marinara sauce over pasta; if you can tolerate, say, Parmesan cheese, pasta con pesto or a stuffed baked artichoke may be acceptable. You might like a grilled portobello mushroom, either with pasta or in a sandwich, and there's always eggplant parmesan. Almost any Italian restaurant should be able to come up with a nice salad with onions and black olives and artichokes and tomatoes and lettuce, skipping the cheese and servine a balsamic vinaigrette on the side. Remind them to skip the anchovies! If going to an Italian restaurant is the boyfriend's idea of a perfect date, and you like Thai or Mexican, you might want to let him know--he may like that kind of food too, and just be going Italian because he thinks it's romantic! You know, wine, gondolas, chocolate....it used to be going to a French restaurant was supposed to be so romantic and chic, but I haven't heard that suggested in years. Guest guest
Thanks Susan, that helps. And thanks to Donna - I think I will call this am, before they get busy with lunch. I don't know this guy very well, it is a first date. Apparently, this place is supposed to be one of the best Italian restaurants in the city, so he is trying to make a good impression! Hey, at least I have more options than I would at a steak house, right? I'm sure favorite foods will come up as a topic of conversation. I had a date in college take me to the Greek restaurant in that little college town once, and it was pretty darned romantic… and I love Greek food!
