What I do is tell when when I order that since the non-veg product is being served, would they make the salad a little larger or add some extra noodles, it's so yummy. Believe me it works when you do that. If the menu states $9 that's the price, same deal if you pick things you don't like out of a salad, why should they discount it? You don't see your food being prepared so I wouldn't make a big deal out of it when paying, they might remember you next time.
