Guest guest
I don't have a proper garden yet, but one's in the works. What I would like to know is whether or not the leaves of summer squash plant (zucchini type yellow squash, to be specific) are edible. I know that pumpkin leaves can be eaten as a green vegetable. I've never had it, although I HAVE eaten the leaves of sweet potato plants and they are very tasty. Squashes are in the same plant family as pumpkins, and people eat the blossoms of both squashes and pumpkins, so I'm wondering, can the LEAVES of the squash plants also be eaten as pumpkin leaves are in some parts of the world? If I successfully GROW a yellow zucchini squash (Burpee's " Butterstick " --the best, in my opinion, of any yellow zucchini), I also will plan for sufficient plants to have some " fruits " to eat! I only need a couple of plants, but if I have an extra or two as " back up " in case they don't do well, I would like to use the extras for " greens " and/or for the blossoms as food. If anyone has any ideas about this, I would welcome your comments! Thank you! Peace! --Laura B., in Illinois PS: Thank
