I'm crazy about my pressure cooker too. How much better the food tastes.

Last pressure cooker I used was in the 60's...They were dangerous then...blowing

up occasionally. Are they safer now? What brands do you all have?

No pressure cooker, no matter how old, is going to " blow up " if it is operated

correctly. My mom used one from about 1950 to when she passed away in

1984......I have used pressure cookers for at least 40 years, a new one in the

early 70's to really vintage (1940's) pressure cookers that I have now. All

you have to do to be SAFE is to pay attention AND follow the manufacture's

directions.

Oh my word yes.  Pressure cookers are so much safer now.  I use a digital model

because they don't require me to use my hot stove in the hot, hot south GA

weather, plus it saves so much energy.  I have this model from HSN,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM5ioGMVv4w It is sold out right now and so is

the  quart model

http://kitchen-dining.hsn.com/elite-6-quart-stainless-steel-programmable-pressur\

e-cooker_p-5856905_xp.aspx?rdr=1 & sourceid=EMTSb20100302 & cm_mmc=EMAIL*TS*EMTSb201\

00302*5856905  They currently do have a Wolf Gang Puck model that is a 7 qt that

I did have before I got the larger 8qt.  I gave it to my sister because she

didn't have one

http://www.hsn.com/wolfgang-puck-7qt-4-in-1-pressure-cooker_p-5861823_xp.aspx

QVC has a nice 6 qt one of their Cook's Essential that many, many people have

wonderful success with that has many setting that neither of the above have.

They just released it this past weekend

ks-Essentials-6qt-Digital-Pressure-Cooker-wHinged-Lid Cuisenart has a wonderful

one that is a pressure cooker only

http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1 & SKU=14463330  and Fagor

has a wonderful multicooker that triples as a rice cooker, slow cooker and

pressure cooker that you can get from, BBB

http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1 & SKU=16239810 BBB also

mails out 20% off coupons that you can use to snag these at a discount.  There

are loads of videos on youtube that demo the products, plus there is a

group, pressurecookerrecipes that provides wonderful help, though mostly meat

recipes because pressure cookers work wonders on meats to make them tender.  The

also work to cook great veggies like wonderous gifts of God they are!  I do hope

you get back into pressure cooking because it cuts so much time off preparing

meals and so

do rice cookers.

They are much safer now. I have a Fissler Blue Point and love it - reduces

cooking time by about two-thirds.

I cooked adzuki beans with pumpkin, sweet potato etc in 6 minutes. I also make a

great cabbage dish in about 2 minutes.

They don't hiss like the old ones, they are really quiet. You still have to

watch them until they reach pressure but it is so easy.

Also I don't think any of them actually blow up, they just let pressure out

whichever way they can.

With the old ones that meant everything ended up on the ceiling and all over the

walls. The new ones have lots of safety features built in so just have a look on

the net. The two that were recommended to me, were the fissler and kuhn rikon,

but it really depends on your budget.

I was told lots of people, particularly pensioners, were buying them because of

the saving costs on power.
