Guest guest
I can't believe what I found and keep going back to look at it and think, na, it can't be. Whoo hoo, lentil seed. We rarely have one bag of sad looking lentils in the grocery store and none canned so we've gone through a long lentil drought so now, seeing things like Urid Dal (Ivory) Lentil, Petite Crimson Lentil, French Blue ORGANIC Lentil , and Black Beluga Lentil, my gardening fingers are twitching and I'm drooling on my keyboard. (Dang it, now I've got to clean the keyboard.) Can this be real? Lentil seeds? I'm feeling faint. Tell me its true and anyone who has grown lentils do you have tips on growing them? http://www.gourmetseed.com/category/gourmet_seed.vegetable_seed.bean___edamame__\ _lentil/ I'm going to go play in my garden and start more transplants. Guest guest
Jeanne, I haven't grown lentils but I live in the inland northwest where most of the USA lentils are grown. Every August they have a Lentil Festival. Lentils are a dryland crop so be careful with watering. You might want to order some of the Pardina seeds also. Those are my favorite as they hold their shape. Good luck and keep us informed. Lentils rock! Guest guest
I have never actually grown lentils, but I have sprouted them. You can easily sprout them from any type of lentils that you buy in the stores. I perfer the red ones, mostly because of the pretty color when I put them in my salads, but the green and brown sprout just as well. If they willl sprout, they whould grow. Since I started using lentils and other beans, tvp, tofu, and seitan instead of meat, my cholesterol has changed from borderline to decidedly good and I've lost 12 pounds without even trying.
